Question about RCA F36650 36" TV

1 Answer

Dead, cycles 3 times

When power is pushed, the green light flashes 3 times with 2s between flashes indicating system control and buttons are working but then cuts off. all voltages seem good out of the power supply with roughly 130V towards the HOT, the HOT is good as well. I suspect the hv transformer, is there anything else i could possibly check for???

replaced flyback, TV WORKS!!!!!, but now i hear some intermittent (every couple seconds continuously) crackling coming from the yoke coil. I'm assuming this is arcing, will this cause the flyback to break again? If so, how can i fix the yoke, thanks

I have the same problem. Where on the board is the flyback transformer? What does it look like?

You could ring the FBT if you have the equipment... If not I would suspect that also. RCA p/n# 257805 which is NLA so you'll have to order a 257807 which is electronically identical to the 257805 with the exception of a plug connected to the screen wire. You simply cut this connector off and you have a 257805.

If you have to ask the question you likely don't have the equipment... Might as well shotgun the repair and simply replace the FBT or take it in to a tech and have it repaired. They will likely ring the flyback and in most cases that will be the problem..

I doubt the static discharge you hear is from the yoke, more likely the anode cup leaking. You can purchase some HV putty and form it into a ring and place it in the cup and seal the anode cup, that should stop the discharge.. Remember you're dealing with 20,000 volts on the crt - doesn't take more than a pin leak for some of that plasma to attempt to find ground.. Just don't get in its way!

Mod.Hp980PT, red and top green light flash, no heat

This is a very common feature on these types of simple, high-volume, low-cost home appliances known as a safety fault. This fault will temporarily (or permanently) disable the appliance and happens for several reasons: (1) an over-temp (high heat) occurrence, (2) an over-power (power surge) occurrence, (3) an under-power (power outage or trickle power) occurrence, (4) an over-time occurrence (auto-off fails), (5) a short-circuit occurrence (exposed/crossed/frayed wires, etc.). Fortunately, it uses a digital "fuse" system and can be reset by the user. However, there is no universal reset process on SoftHeat products so you just have to play with it until you figure it out (customer service dept is no help). Mine is a Kaz SoftHeat HP980PT, with a red power indicator/power-off button and 4 green heat setting buttons. Mine faulted after a heavy storm caused multiple power outages and power surges in my neighborhood. The green light on the highest heat setting button was flashing on mine. Here's how I fixed it: (1) unplugged both ends of power cord and straightened out the cord, then plugged back in to the heating pad end. (2) While holding down the flashing light button, I plugged back in to the wall outlet. (3) While still holding down the flashing light button, pressed and held down the red power-off button, then while still holding down the red power button, I released the flashing light button, followed by releasing the power-off button. This stopped the flashing green light and caused the red power indicator light to stay on (steady-on). It works fine now. Note: Some models have an actual hard fuse in addition to the digital fault feature or possibly only a simple fuse (without the digital fault system). These fuses can the found at many retail stores and then very easily replaced. I hope this helps some of you!!!

Flashing green light

Did you try this yet

SYSTEM RESET
If the TV will not respond to either the remote control
or the front panel controls and/or will not power Off,
press the SYSTEM RESET button with a pointed item
like the end point of a paperclip. The TV will turn Off
and the TIMER light will flash quickly for about one
minute. When the TIMER light stops flashing, you may
turn on the TV again. Changes you made the last time
the TV was On before you used the SYSTEM RESET
button may be lost, however, the changes you made
previously are not lost.
POWER/TIMER Indicator
The green light is a multi-function indicator. This light
will flash rapidly for about one minute each time the TV
is plugged into the wall electrical outlet, when power
is restored after a power failure, or using the SYSTEM
RESET button. Do not attempt to turn on the TV again
during this period. Wait for the flashing to stop and
the light to turn off, before attempting to turn the TV
on. While the TV is powered on, the light illuminates
steadily. If the TV has been programmed to turn on
automatically using the Timer feature,

Error code e10

Communication failure =E10
1. Rotate the CYCLE SELECT KNOB to the 3 O’clock
position.
2. Press and hold the Select and Pause Cancel
buttons simultaneously for (6) seconds.
3. Immediately after, press and hold the START and
Pause Cancel
buttons simultaneously for (4)
seconds.
4. Rotate the CYCLE SELECT KNOB to the 2 O’clock
position.
The STATUS indicator lights will flash the number of
times for the first digit of the code and the START indicator
light will flash the number of times for the second digit.
The code is obtained by counting the number of times
the lights flash. Example E24: the STATUS indicator
lights would flash twice indicating the 2 and the START
indicator light will flash four times indicating the 4. The
STATUS indicator lights and the START indicator light
will start flashing at the same time. The control will then
pause for 2 seconds, then repeat the code.
Troubleshoot the problem by using the chart on next
page.
To move to the next code, press the OPTIONS button.
To clear code, press the Select botton.
To exit this mode, simultaneously press and hold the
Select and Pause Cancel buttons for (6) seconds to
reset.
if this does not work need to replace control
