You have to ensure that everything is in place. Try to pull it out by force and if it nudges just oil it a bit.
I have not yet opened a xbox 360 but i bet you will have to remove teh casing, and should then have a visual of this belt.

If the drive sounds as though its trying to open, then its most likley the rubber belt wich should be located right below the tray where the cds are placed onto. I have not yet opened a xbox 360 but i bet you will have to remove teh casing, and should then have a visual of this belt.

Plz help, I opened my xbox 360 (not imp y) when i was moving the dvd drive, the console turned off and wouldn't turn on. I took it out of the electircal socket (xbox electric cable) and put it back in...

You might have disconnected one or more cables powering the DVD-drive. Check wether you have connected all the wires correctly and / or without making any bad contact.

Dvd tray will not open all the time but when it does it wont read disc like nothing is in it at all its a benq type dvd can i swap it out and put my older dvd hitachi in its place or is there some ez fix...

hi, you know when you press the open button and it jams you know as soon as you press the button you hear it make a noise then jam well as soon as it jams if you press the tray in quickly then let go as if your pushing it in like a button it should then open on its own.
so you press the eject button and it should come out a tiny bit before it jams well as soon as it jams push it in and let go and usually it will open.

another known trick with benq drives is when you switch the xbox on wait for it to come on fully then press the eject button on the xbox now when it jams dont try pressing it again wait for the xbox dvd drive to stop making a noise and when it resting again if you press the eject button again it should come open

right now as for replacing the dvd drive if you swap out the benq and put in any other such as hitachi you will need to hack the drive to work doing this bans you from xbox live and certain updates will stop your xbox working ever again so it is a bit of a risk, as long as you dont install any updates you will be ok but you will need to hack the software on the new drive and thats not easy as you need to have it connected to the xbox for power and connect the sata connection into your pc so you can then put the new software on.

the other option you have is buying another benq drive the same as yours for the well known auction site, now even this is not just a case of putting the new dvd drive in what you have to do is undo the 4 screws on the bottom of your dvd drive and take off the top and bottom case, then if you look at the bottom of the dvd drive you will see a circuit board well you need to take this off your dvd drive and fit it onto the new benq drive without doing this the new drive would not work as your dvd drive is married with software to your xbox so it will only work in your xbox so swapping this control board over gets around this and will get it working again.

the problem with it not opening is to do with a white rubber drive belt slipping this causes the mechanism inside not to drop down properly causing it to jam so if you are having real problems getting it open even with the ways i have told you then take the dvd drive out undo the 4 screws on the bottom of the dvd drive then pull the top and bottom half off and give the belts a good clean and get all the dust out as this causes them to slip.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Plays dvd but not games

When you replaced the DVD drive did you swap the circuit board (on the bottom of the DVD drive when you open it up).

Every DVD drive is "paired" with the Xbox 360, so you need to open up the DVD drives, and swap the green circuit boards on the bottom of the DVD drives. Should work after this.

Put a older dvd drive in newer x box will not read games

You can't just swap DVD drives.

For starters you need a DVD drive of the same model. In other words if you have a LiteOn drive you need a LiteOn drive.

Even with the same model, you still need to swap the PCB board (circuit board).

Basically you open up your old DVD drive and take the circuit board off the bottom, then open your new DVD drive and swap the circuit boards.

It's not as hard you might think.

If you don't have the correct model, here is a great site to buy the one you need: http://parts.consolerepaiguy.com - they run around $30 there.

I repair them so I am 100% sure that this is the problem.

Open tray error

This is going to be a bit long -- but very detailed, so please read it carefully. There are several reasons that an xbox 360 system will have problem reading discs. The error messages also vary from unreadable disk, no message at all but the game skips, "please insert disc in a 360 console" to "open tray." There are a few reasons this may happen:

1. Bad disc. Check the back of your disc for scratches. If it looks good (or plays fine in another console), then the disc is probably fine. Also-- try more than 1 game to be sure.

2. Bad laser. The XBox 360 has a DVD drive very similar to a PC's DVD drive inside. The drive contains a bunch of parts including a few motors and gears and a laser. The laser is the part that actually reads the disc. The reality is... with all the hours and hours of gameplay, lasers do eventually wear out. The laser isn't very easy to replace, but it is replaceable. You can find any and all XBox 360 lasers at the following website:

http://store.richspsxparts.com/xb360ac.html

3. Bad DVD Drive. Sometimes other components inside of the DVD drive can become bad such as the motor that spins the disk, the motors that open the tray, etc, etc. You can get a new DVD drive to just replace everything, including the laser, in one shot but there is a catch. The XBOX 360's DVD drive is tied to the motherboard using a software lock. The easiest way to overcome this lock is to buy the exact same manufacture DVD drive that is in your system now, remove the circuit board from the old DVD drive (which contains the software key) and transfer the circuit board into the new DVD drive that you purchase. If you do this simple procedure, there is no flashing involved. The following website carries DVD drives and also provides instructions on swapping the circuit board from the old drive into the new one.

Xbox 360 won't play discs

This is the thing to do. Open the drive and look at the tray. Then go to this site to identify your dvd make http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/Xbox_360_DVD_Drive_Comparison.htm
buy a good working drive or a new one you have to open the drive and change the pcb board (circuit board in the dvd drive) from your drive to the good or new one. Then reinstall everything. The motherboard and pcb board are keyed together so you can't just use the drive with out changing the pcb's. If you need a drive I sell good used ones for $29 and $10 shipping.

Xbox 360 starts up randomly, tray opens and closes spontenaously

I have the same Problem my X box came on spontaniously and the DVD tray opens and closes non stop till I get the RROD code. it will play games and DVDs only if it stays closed long enough to start then it opens up and starts the cycle all over. I opned up the DVD drive and can't see any thing blocking any thing I even used a Q tip to pit a little oil on the screw meckanisim that opens the drive and blue it out with compressed air. and it did not fix the problem I am going to have to buy a new drive my Drive is a Philips drive.
