Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC32 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Whiteout in viewfinder, LCD and playback when filming outdoors

Even on days that are not full of sun, the image in viewfinder, LCD, and the replayed video, is white. When sunny, it is almost a complete white out. Bought the camera used on Ebay (store model they said), they had a great replacement policy, but wife and I did not use outside until many, many months after purchasing. Therefore, I am stuck with this camera. This camera is otherwise perfect (except for that MAJOR issue), we like quality and features. In the three years since buying it we do not film outdoors, I have finally decided to research to see if others have had similar problem, and if so, what is the fix (bad CCD)? I know nothing about video cameras (or any cameras for that matter), but am very mechanical, and when I know what the defective issue is, I can usually fix by myself.

Thanks, Dumass, but the night shot is definitely off. Last week, the camera arrived back home after being sent to Sony's repair facility in Laredo, TX, as the CCD was part of a recall that they were running until March 31, 2009. My camera was there during that recall period. While the camera was there, they called me to explain that they determined the CCD was not the issue. They mentioned three electrical components that were bad, and quoted $170 repair to fix those three problems. That is much more than the camera is worth at this point, so I declined, and told them to return the camera to me. I asked them if they could include a description of the bad parts that they had diagnosed, and send that info back with the camera. They said they would be happy to do that. Camera arrived back to me, with no info about what the repairs are that it needs. I called them, they told me that the week before, they started a new policy whereby they don't give details like that unless the camera is fixed by them. I told them I was extremely upset at this. I plan to call Sony customer service this week, and explain how poorly I think my case was handled at their (outsourced) repair center. Any other info from other people who may have had the same problem (and solution?) with this "white-out" video condition only when filming outdoors, any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

You should check and see if your night shot is on. That would definitely make the screen go completely whit outside but work fine inside. Hope that helps.

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully
extended.

could be one from a batch with faulty CCDs - check out this fixya link (solution 2) - http://www.fixya.com/support/t115316-canon_mv30 - it's copied from a page at imaging-resource.com - my MV600i was out of warranty and I sent it back to Canon at the end of 2007 and they got it going again free of charge within the week - unfortunately within weeks a very similar fault appeared and now they're trying to charge me for the repair !!! even though they say repairs are under warranty for six months -

Red Screen

Since this is being recorded it is not a problem with the monitor or viewfinder. I believe that it is a problem with the imaging chip or the circuitry immediately after the image block. It actually sounds like a bad solder joint. If you are very good with tools and soldering, have magnifying glasses and a steady hand, you should be able to repair this. If you are not familiar with the repair of camcorders (and there are many tiny pieces to keep track of) there is probably little you can do to solve this problem. If you go to this website http://www.videotech.com for the price of shipping you can get a free estimate or you can get an estimate online at http://www.camcorderrepair.com I would think that the cost to repair this should be reasonable. Good luck.
