Question about Sony PCV-RS620G PC Desktop

2 Answers

Three Beeps Hey fellas, I need a little help from the tech gods here. Give me your best opinions whats up with my computer. A couple weeks ago I tried to boot the machine up and I got 3 beeps from the hard drive (I think) and then it didn't boot up. The Fans and power and Video card are all still running but it isn't booting up. So I opened it up took the video card out cleaned it took all the RAM out cleaned that as well cleaned the main processor and unhooked the power and connectors from hard drive and cleaned them as well. Hooked everything back up and it seemed to boot up. I thought I was in the clear. I turned it off the next day and same result. Push power hear three beeps and nothing. I was persistant and continued to to hit the power button till the damn thing finally booted up. I thought it could have been a software issue so I ran Norton and adaware and even did a defrag on the main drive. All this seemed to work for about a week now and tonight it is doing the same shit. So I am not too sure what to do. Its a Sony VAIO model PCV-RS620G with a 160GB (7200 rpm) hard drive. Everything is still stock other than the 1Gig of Ram and the Radion X700 video card I put in it about a year ago. I checked and I am only using about 15% of my hard drive space after the defrag. I have not added any new software lately and not downloaded anything off the net recently. The computer is only about 3-4yrs old maybe. So with all that said, what do you think?

Re: Three Beeps

I have the same computer with the same problem. If im lucky I can "jump start" the computer by turning it on and then holding the power button until it powers off then quickley turning the comptuer back on.. That used to work all the time, now not so much. Did you ever find a solution?

Re: Three Beeps

Was there a screen message when the 3 beeps occured, as this sometimes indicates that the cmos time and date are incorrect, so check your time in the bios (f2 or Del on boot up), if it's wrong the cmos battery will need changing.

On power on 3beeps and the screen remains blank after a day on powering up the computer works fine. this problem occurs after about a week. I have done a clean reinstall still there is the problem

Beeps are from the computers hardware, not software. 3 beeps is a memory problem. You may have to purchase new RAM. RAM(Random Access Memory) can be purchased and installed at your local Best-Buy or Staples store. Usually, 1GB of RAM is 20$. To give you an idea, most high-end machines run on 3-6GB of RAM. So for 60$, you will have a nice machine that will have the beeps resolved.

Hope this helps!

It beeps and will not boot an intermittent beep.I checked to see if the components seemed seated correctly as far as I know they are I am a total novice.Any way it will not boot in anyway and the beep was...

Take out the memory thats inside of the computer and reseat each memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Try turning on the computer as well after each reseat to see if the beeps go away.

If that doesn't work then take out the processor and reseat it as well.

If the computer has a video card in one of the slots, take that out and reseat that as well.

If after all of this the computer still beeps, then the motherboard is bad.

If your computer is beeping at you, 9 times out of 10 its going to be an issue with the memory or video. (more often the memory) Try re-seating both. If your still hearing the beep fest, below is a list of the most common beeps and what they refer to. This will help you to find out what needs replacing.

Will not boot up

The beeps are error codes there should be a system what it sounds like is 3 beeps then a pause and it starts again. go to and click on drivers and downloads then type in your model number and download the manuals there will be a chart stating what the beep code means if you have a warranty go to the liive chat and just have there technicians tell you what it means to save time then repair the error

Emachine beeps

That would be a problem for e-machine. The beeps are codes.
I will try to help, but it is hard to diagnose without looking at it.
You can try several things. Open it up and make sure that everything is seated inside. Make sure the memory is pushed in all the way. Memory will beep like that when it is bad or not in.
Make sure everything is plugged up and the keyboard is not getting a key stuck.
Better yet...... If you just bought it...Pack it up and take it back to the store. You should not have to work on a new computer. The bad thing is that some stores only have a 30 day return policy. You mentioned that you have the same problem. Is this your second computer with this problem?

If you want more help you will have to give us the model number. That is a BIOS code and without knowing what BIOS is in it, it is hard to know the answer.
Don't give me a bad rating for trying to help, because this is hard to diagnose. You might want to call E-machine, because that should be under warranty and if you break something the warranty is gone. Hang on...E-machine was bought out by Gateway wasn't it? The last time I ordered a disk for an E-machine, the disk came from Gateway. In my research I found the following information.

E-MACHINE has a support site
Click her for support.

Click on the link below to read about Gateway buying E-machine in 2004.
Gateway paid $30 million in cash and 50 million shares of Gateway stock to buy eMachines.

Computer beeps when first turning on

If your computer is still under warranty, the company should replace them. If not, you can buy them really cheap.

Or you could just return the computer. This is what I would do, because it might not be the mouse/keyboard that is causing this. It could be that you just have a bad motherboard.
