Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low

I get an error message just before the logon screen that says Virtual memory minimum Too Low. I get the option to click ok. So I click OK and then the screen stays all black. The mouse pointer still moves around. How can I solve this. I can't even log on the machine in safe mode.

Hi!

Here's the procedure on how to increase virtual memory of your PC:

Right click on My Computer > left click on Properties > Advanced > Settings > Advanced. Under Virtual memory left click on Change.

Select (left click) on the Drive on wich Windows XP is installed. In most cases this will be Drive C.

Under Drive:
Space available: Select the radio button labeled: Custom size:

To play it safe, in both the Initial (MB)size: and Maximun size: dialogue boxes type 2560 (i.e. allocate 2.5GB for the pagefile) provided you have the free memory space to spare. If you don't have enough free memory available enter the amount of memory you can spare, and meanwhile seriously consider getting a larger Hard Drive.

Mine is set to 4096MB (4GB), max. allowed by XP. This may seem like quite a lot, but the reason for this is that recent games now require a lot more real and virtual memory to function correctly, even if you have 2GB of RAM. Having a larger pagefile size does not hurt performance as such; it only takes up a bit of additional disk space.

After setting the new page file size left click on
OK > OK > OK. Then restart the computer.

Error message Low on virtual memory

Virtual Memory is used by the operating system as an extension to the Random Access Memory (RAM). When the RAM does not have enough space to accommodate the entire running program, the inactive parts of that program are temporarily shifted to the Virtual Memory. These parts are then swapped back into the RAM as and when needed. If the Virtual Memory set on your system is not enough for the computer operations to run smoothly, then you will get the "Virtual Memory Is Too Low" error message. If operating system is xp then this problem can be easily overcome by increasing the Virtual Memory size. This is how you can do it by following instrutions:

  1. Click on "Start" and then click on "Control Panel.
  2. Double-click on the "System" icon in the Control Panel.
  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab in the System Properties dialog box.
  4. Click on the "Settings" button below Performance.
  5. Click on the "Advanced" tab in the Performance Options dialog box.
  6. Click on the "Change" button below Virtual memory.
  7. Click on a drive_letter below "Drive [Volume Label]" in the Virtual Memory dialog box.
  8. Click on the "Custom size" option.
  9. Click in the "Initial size (MB)" text box and type a larger value (for example, 600).
  10. Click in the "Maximum size (MB)" text box, and type a larger value (for example, 1500).
  11. Click on the "Set" button. Similarly change the Virtual Memory on other drives.
  12. Click on "OK" and then restart your computer.

CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW MUCH VIRTUAL MEMORY DOES A PATRIOT 2006 LAPTOP HAVE

Virtual memory?

Virtual memory is created and used by windows operating system.
This value can be changed and solely depends on the hard drive space available.

Simply put There isnt any limit, nor a minimum. The amount of virtual memory depends on how much was set up and can be increased or decreased at any time.

The purpose of virtual memory is to allow windows to use part of your hard drive as rams.

virtual memory and rams (conventional memory are different things)
you can have as much or as little as u need. increasing it improves performance.

So No one can actually answer that question. Simply put any amount you want is the correct answer!.

Low virtual memory

Ok let me help you, hopefully you have atleast 2GB of hard drive space left.

Step 1: Double-click Control Panel

Step 2: Double-click System

Step 3: Click on the advanced Tab

Step 4: Click the "Settings" button under Performance

Step 5: Under Performance options Click on the Advanced Tab

Step 6: Click "Change" under Virtual Memory

Step 7: Select Custom Size, ( if custome size is grayed out uncheck Automaticall manage paging...)

Step 8: Change Custom Size to 2048, if you have more than 3 Gigabytes on your harddrive available, change the custom size to 3072.

Step 9: Hit the "Set" button then "ok"

You may need to restart your computer after this is complete.

This is really just a temporary fix. I would suggest purchasing more Ram for your computer. If you would like you may reply to this message with the make and model of your computer and I will gladly look up what you need to upgrade.

Where do I get memory for my home addition xp computer brought it in 2002

Take the computer (not the keyboard & mouse & other periperals)
to any computer-store -- the smaller the store, the better.

That store needs your business -- they will open the case,
sell you memory that will be compatible with your computer,
and will, if you ask, install the RAM for a small (maybe even zero) fee.

Virtual memory is the space on your Hard Drive which can be reserved for computer to be used as a RAM. You can change the size of you Virtual memory by performing the following steps:

Click on Start, Right click My computer, click Properties. It will open the system properties window. Click on Advanced TAB, there will be a section called Performance, Click settings under performance, it will open the Performance Options window. Then click on the Advanced Tab and look for Virtual Memory at the bottom. Click on the Change button to change the size of the Virtual memory. You can allow the system to choose the size or you can manually select the size of your Hard Disk to be used as Virtual Memory. If you select the option for system managed size, you computer will automatically increase the size of you Virtual memory whenever needed. Once you select the desired option, Click Set and then click the OK button. Close the performance Option by clicking ok and also close the System properties by clicking OK.

Hope you find this information helpful.

I had same problem on my new XP Home Edition . It's got 1GB of RAM and I reckon the software is just comparing the raw numbers i.e 1 is less than 3 so it doesn't think it has enough memory. I reset my Virtual Memory and the game works fine.
To fix, try this
Right-click on My Computer icon, and select Properties.
Click on the Advanced tab,
then select the Settings button within the Performance section.
In the Performance Options window, click on the Advanced tab, and then select the Change button in the Virtual Memory section.
Click the Custom size button...
Change the Initial size (MB) setting to 4000
Change the Maximum size (MB) setting to 4000
Select SET to accept the change, which will close the Virtual Memory window. Select OK to close the Performance Options window. And select OK to exit the System Properties window. Oh, and don't forget to restart your computer. I hope this helps.

How to increase my pc speed

You have to upgrade your RAM. 512MB is the minimum. Also you can increase the virtual memory. To do this right click on mycomputer, click properties, click on settings button that is next to performance, Click on virtual memory and then click on change. Set the value to 512. This will speed up your computer a little but stil upgrading your RAM is the best bet.
