Does anyone know if they use Spectre RDD(Radar detector detectors) in the state of New York?
I have the same problem.

yes they do, but the radar detectors are legal now except in comercial vehicles.

apple... indicated that his solution for
Passport 8500 X50... Problem
is valid for all Radar Detectors
They dont use Spectre, or VG-2 in the state of New York. Radar detectors are illegal in Washington DC and Virgina, and indirectly illegal in Minnesota and Callifornia(cant have anything on your windshield). I dont believe they use Spectre in DC or VA, but in Canada they do, so watch out. If you are worried about having your radar detector being taken away by a spectre using officer, you may want to check out the Beltronics STi Driver, completly un-detectable.

No they are not illegal in the State of New York. However, they are illegal in all of the United States in commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds primarily. So 18 wheelers have to be on a look out.
