Question about JVC AV-20FD22 20 in. TV/DVD Combo

Open Question

I am trying to use an older tv/dvd player, JVC, model number AV-20FD  22, for a monitor for my macbook laptop.  I have a mini-dvi to video adapter for the notebook and a video cable from that to the video input for the tv.  The input is for camcorders and games.  I took the tv owner's manual to Best Buy and their Mac guy looked at my macbook and the tv owner's manual and told me what to buy.  Hooked it up and am getting a very ghosty image on line two, but that's all.  changed the resolutions, checked them all and no picture.  No desktop image on the tv.  What's missing or what am I doing wrong? fd22

What cable is needed to stream Netflix to a Macbook?

If you want to use a TV as a secondary or mirrored monitor. All you would need is a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter. Use the adapter to connect an HDMI cable between your computer and the TV. Once connected you will have an option to use it as a secondary or mirrored (exact copy of what is on your laptop) monitor. If you have one of the newer macbook pros you need a Mini Display port to HDMI adapter.

Can not get the DVD player to record to our new LCD TV. Worked fine with the older CRT model. It will play OK. Do I need an upconcertter to make this work?

What kind of connection (wire) are you using to connect the DVD player to the TV? Is it composite (RCA, yellow), component (3X RCA, blue, red, green), S-video (Mini-DIN, like a computer keyboard or mouse connector), DVI (Like a wider computer monitor connector), HDMI (Wider and thinner but like a USB connector)?

I'm trying to plug my laptop into a tv to display my desktop and I can't seem to do it. I got a vga adapter and cord that is plugged into both the tv and laptop. What am I doing wrong?

The 13" White MacBook 2.0GHz has a mini-DVI out port. The adapter you need is
Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter
On the TV side, more information is needed. You need to specify what ports on the TV you are using for your signal, and what kind of adapter cable you are using. I suspect this is the component or connection where your problem lies.

No image on screen

Make sure the monitor is working first. Try hook it up to a regular PC. If it works on a regular PC then make sure your Macbook's output is setup to show the video onto an external monitor.

If you can't get the monitor to show video on a regular pc then that means the monitor is bad.

Is these a driver to get USB connection to macbook

Are you asking if there is an adapter? There actually is an adapter (USB to S-Video) that will work between the two. However, with my MacBook C2D 2.4 GHZ, I use mini DVI to VGA adapter. This allows instant laptop to projector picture and sound. You can use it for anything from powerpoint to movies or even as a giant monitor. The mini-DVI to VGA adapter can be purchased at Best Buy for less than $20. Look for it in the accessory aisle near the Apple machines. IMO, this is a priceless addition to your MacBook. I hope this helps! Please remember to vote if it does.

Connecting LE26R8 to MacBook Pro

Hi.
LE26R8 its a Samsung LCD TV.
You can Connect a LCD TV to MacBook Pro.

You need a mini dvi to dvi or mini dvi to vga depending on your monitor. You also need a cable to get the sound to the tv from the macbook (from headphone output specifically)

Need to know if this adapter is compatible with this monitor.

Not in the way you describe. You would need to get a Mini DVI to DVI cable according to your description, they are cheap and available at any electronics store.

I have connected my macbook to my tv using mini

Later MacBook (Pro) use a mini-DVI connector that does not pass analog needed for composite or S-video. Was yours ever working? And most DVI connectors do not pass sound as seen by your cabling. You cannot detect display through RCA. You just set it in Sys Prefs :: Displays, try some other settings, although your seem right.
I have a white early-2009 MacBook and mini-DVI to HDMI adapter (monoprice <$10) and HDMI cable and have not connected the TOS-link for sound, yet--just slideshows at 1920x1080. You will get a much better picture digitally. -Ken

Re: Video Card TOAST???

Given the environment and issue, sometimes a solid way to process of eliminate, is to add a display to the laptop. Laptop videocards are embedded/integrated in the motherboard/logic board. So, your Mac has not been specified. This provides for many variables. I'll keep this simple but thorough.

First, monitors. Unless you have a great hook up from the next level, you will most likely have a:
  • VGA monitor. if the monitor has the cable attached to it, and not via connectors, but actually runs into the back of the monitor, odds are it's VGA.
  • DVI monitor. Most DVI monitors do have atleast a VGA input.
DVI is digital and far more robust, but the cables and connectors might not outweight what you gain from it if you're not using it to, watch movies, edit video and or edit high resolution photo. If you already own a DVI monitor, then I feel the cable ( if 3-6 ft) and the "possible adapter"
($20) is well worth enjoying what you've paid for.

The "possible adapter" is a white (made by Apple for Apple) proprietary adapter that is required to connect any Macintosh laptop that IS NOT of the ALUMINUM POWERBOOK or MAC BOOK or MACBOOK PRO series, to a monitor. All recent Macintosh laptops ship with 1 form or another of a video adapter.

  • Mini VGA to VGA
  • Mini DVI to DVI
If you need to cross over VGA to DVI and DVI to VGA adapters are available, but you will then have to make note of the gender of the connecting port or cable end.

So, if you own:
  • A white G3/G4 IBook, the video output connection is MINI VGA.
  • Older Titanium Powerbooks, pre 667Mhz have a standard VGA on the rear.
  • 667Mhz-1Ghz Titanium Powerbook, all Aluminum Powerbooks, and ALL Macbook Pros have an on-board DVI female ports. In the rear for TIbooks and Rear right side on Aluminumbooks and MBPs.
  • All Macbooks utilize mini DVI.
SO, ON WITH THE QUESTION PLEASE!!

Connect a display to your laptop. If you get a picture, than more than likely, any component from the cable that runs from the motherboard, up into the display panel, to the inside of the display, is faulty.

If you do not get a picture, than its highly possible the video card or GPU has failed.

If you could specify your model, I can further assist you.
