Question about Compaq Audio card Sound Card

1 Answer

No sound! Just weeks ago, I had to re-install windows xp to my compaq presario sr1603wm computer. After doing this, I discovered not only the windows program I have now is an older version than what I originally had , but I have all of the appropriate players to play things on the internet however I have no sound! I guess my thing is when I try to troubleshoot the problem, Windows says i have no sound card or appropriate mixer device so therefore, the volume control option is not available. It reconizes the hardware I have or need but it just won't start.I've tried everything from unstalling to reinstalling the hardware to even trying to look for sound cards all together. Any possible suggestions on what to do about this?

Hi, I'm Azrul. Compaq presario srt1603wm uses the realtek AC'97 hardware. There are many drivers available for realtek.

I have a compaq sr1603wm and I was wondering what motherboard I can use to replace the stock one and if I would need to replace the power and or fan thanks..

You need and AMD motherboard that supports the Sempron processor -939 Socket. It's a little difficult to find them now, but they are still available. Since you have a brand computer. You make have to give up some perks like front usb port or the audio cable might be too short to mount on the new board. Be prepared for some compromise when installing a different board.

Your computer is infected with a virus. The only solution for that problem is that you should reformat your hard disk and install a new copy of Operating System to it again. If you do have important files on that drive, you can back-up them by plugging it to another computer and there you will the content of you drive. Hope this will you..Thanks..

Sound Driver of a Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC

Reinstallations of XP sometimes do not install all of the sound files needed. Do a google search for UAA, it is Microsoft's audio file. Download it, install it and then run Windows update. The drivers for your machine should be under the Hardware section of the updates.

If you re-installed Windows XP and you had Windows XP you did not install an older version - you just need Windows updates and most likely the sound card driver. Windows Update may eventually provide a driver, but I'd check the HP Website (HP owns Compaq) for drivers.
