Question about PC Desktops

Gateway Toshiba DVDR/RW TS-h552 will not open and DOES NOT HAVE SMALL PIN HOLE at front to use for manual opening. I have tried to remove the curved plastic front cover. There are 4 plastic latches - two on the bottom and two on the side - but when they are depressed something is still keeping the front cover in place on the lower part of the drive.

I already have it out of the machine and I have removed the four screws holding the top of the dvd box to the dvd case. I can see the circuit board and the internal cables. however I cannot find anything that seems to be a release for the drawer. There is a black rachet extending along the long axis of the internal part of the drive but nothing that responds to gentle probing to release the drawer from the enclosing box.I was hoping I could get the plastic front piece off the box - there are 4 plastic tabs tabbing into the case - two on top and two on the side that seem to hold the front piece but when I depress them there is still something locking the frontpiece in place that is on the bottom side of the metal box. I am afraid to force the front off as I do not want to break some important plastic tab. I have looked online to try and find a manual for this thing but neither the gateway nor the Toshiba site was usefule. what i cannot understand is why there is no release pin hole on the front which is the standard for most dvd and cd drives.

is there a way I can send you images of the unmounted drive?

  1. Close all programs and shut down the PC.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
  3. Look for the small hole on the faceplate of the CD or DVD drive. Thisis the manual release. The location of the manual release hole willvary (see Figures below for possible locations).
NOTE: Onsome models it may be necessary to remove the front panel to expose themanual release hole. Check the documentation that came with your PC forinformation about removing the front panel.Gateway Toshiba DVDR/RW TS-h552 will - c00366523.gif
NOTE: Onsome models the release hole and the drive activity LED look similarand are about the same size. Do not force the paperclip into the holeif it does not go in. Make sure that the hole is not actually the LED. 4. Straighten the paperclip and insert it into the manual release hole until resistance is felt.
  5. Once the resistance is felt, keep pushing the paper clip until the drawer opens a little.
  6. Remove the paper clip and gently pull out the drawer until the disc is accessible.
  7. Remove the CD and turn on the PC.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, for some reason the model TS-H552 shows a Samsung DVD drive. In any case, the front cover could not be removed not unless the tray cover is removed first.

In the absence of a pinhole, the tray cover could not be removed without breaking it. The alternative is to remove the cover of the drive itself and exposing the internal mechanism. Thereafter, the gears must be manually turned to initiate the tray lock/latch and continued to partially eject the tray. Should this be accomplished, then tray could be manually pulled out. Often causes of this problem is a loose or broken belt or in some instances a defective loading motor.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

You can try removing the drive then open it up by removing the screws. Once opened you should be able to see what is causing the hangup and repair accordingly. Do not attempt to force open as it will only break. Hope this helps you.

My DVD/CDW-ROM drive is gone! It is a TSSTcorp TS-H552D How can I down load a new driver free?

Try the following link;

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

If that doesn't work I suggest you install a free program called "Slim Drivers" and allow it to scan your system and locate the correct driver. I recommend noting which drivers you're installing so they can be rolled back should one of them not function properly.

DVD RW drive is empty and do not open.

The drive may be bad or jammed up. There is a small pin sized hole to help you manually eject the drawer. Try popping it open and see if you can get it to unjam. Use a straightened out paper clip to fit into the hole and push somewhat firmly. Hopefully this will unjam the drive. If you cannot hear it trying to do something when you hit eject, or if you do not ever see flashing lights, the drive is probably bad.

My Toshiba ts-h653 cd/dvd RW drive failed. the

If the drive is trashed, just force the drawer open. If you don't want to do that, you should be able to disassemble the drive enough to get the disk out by removing screws... Sometimes the screws are underneath stickers, or warranty stickers, etc etc.

My disc drive wont open, i tryed hitting it, prying, and even tearing off the front off my tower! any ideas?

in front of your cd rom disc drive you will see a very small hole, try to insert a small sharp object or pin that will fit in the hole, that is the bypass key to open the disk tray

Manaully open a disk player for a emachine

there's a small hole in the front of the disk drive close to the base of the tray and near the button used to open the drive. get a paper clip, open one end, hold carefully, and place it in the hole and push carefully till the drive opens.

to close, just push the tray back in firmly but without slaming it in. don't want to damage any of the gears inside.

Disc tray will not open

Do you see a small little pin hole in the front of the tray? IF so, then take a paper clip, and open it up and get it as straight as you can. Push the paper clip straight into the hole and it should open the disc tray for you.
If there isn't a small pin hole in your unit, then this trick will not work.
Good luck.
