Question about Compaq Audio card Sound Card

2 Answers

Hello! Just weeks ago I had to re-install windows xp to my computer. However, after i reinstalled it, I discovered the version I have is an older version of windows than I had before. As a result, I now have no sound that comes out when i try to play music or a video. After trying to troubleshoot the problem i discovered I now do not have an appropriate sound card or mixer device to play anything. It is available but it simply won't start. I've tried everything from updating the hardware to even looking for a new sound card for my computer. Nothing seems to work. I have a compaq presario sr1603wm and I bought it about three years ago. Even though my computer is newer than the windows program i have, I feel I should'nt have this problem. I love listening to music and now I feel deprived. help!

If you re-installed Windows XP and you had Windows XP you did not install an older version - you just need Windows updates and most likely the sound card driver. Windows Update may eventually provide a driver, but I'd check the HP Website (HP owns Compaq) for drivers.

Compaq presario 1630 wont install chipset

Hello,Is this the same version of windows you had installed prior to the reinstall? the 1630 is an older laptop and shipped with small hard drives and preloaded with windows 98. Windows XP is much larger than 98 and therefore using all of your hard drive space. Are you able to go to click "my computer" and click on c drive and see how much disk space is left?

Does the Design Studio for Plastic Canvas work with Windows 7? I bought the item on Amazon, and the description stated Windows 95/98 and later, but the box only states Windows 95/98. The seller could not...

First what version of Windows 7 are you running? Click on Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System and read the title of your OS. If it ends with x64, you have the 64-bit OS. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version. Next which version of Design Studio do you have? If you have version 2.0, that is compatible with XP and Vista (not x64).

If you use a 32-bit version of Windows 7, you may be able to get it to work with the compatibility mode. Right click on the installer on the CD and choose Properties. In the Compatibility tab, set the "Run this program in the Compatibility Mode" and choose an older version of Windows (try XP first). Then right click again on the installer and choose Run as Administrator.

However, it will not work with the 64-bit version due to unsigned drivers and other issues.

There are workarounds if the program doesn't work in the compatibility mode. You need an older version of Windows running. This could be on a physical second computer, a dual boot system or a virtual computer. If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate or upgrade to one of them, you can use a virtual version of XP for free. Download and install Virtual PC and the XP mode from Microsoft in order. Then install your Design Studio in the XP "machine" as if it was your only computer. The only restriction is that you can not share your printer or files under XP mode and Win 7 at the same time. You will need to uninstall the printer and reinstall it under the other OS or transfer the files to external media to share them. Other virtual computer programs are Parallels and VMWare. For these virtual computer, the dual boot, or the physical second computer option, you will need a licensed version of the older Windows OS.

The documentation and an update are available here: http://www.plasticcanvassoftware.com/ . The update is in the Customer Service section.

I hope this helps.

Sounds like a driver communication issue. Please try uninstalling the driver and related software, reboot, and then re-install. Make sure to reboot in between.

Thanks.

Hello.

Just some thoughts:

1. Your Windows XP install (image ?) may be corrupt. Reinstall or capture another image.
2. Try installing Windows XP on C: and Windows 7 on D: That way the boot files are left for the older version.

Hope this helps.

Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave -

I have a state of the art computer but wireless keyboards and mice are just a pain in the backside if you ask me. This is common on almost all of them. Unless you need to sit on the other side of the room I would invest in a cabled solution. There is no battery costs or need to re-charge when your busy, it responds quicker and they last longer.

SPY SWEEPER

Are you running Windows Xp or Windows Vista

That error on XP usually means that your trial version or full version has expired. If you have upgraded to Vista, then you will need to uninstall Spy Sweeper and reinstall.

If you do not have the option of purchasing the software, then go to this link for a few version
