Dustin, The ignitor only glows for 5 seconds, just long enough to ignite the fuel. The heater is shutting down because the photocell does not see the correct flame color.
Since you say "comes on for 5 seconds", I can only assume that there is a flame. You do not specify a lack of flame. I am also assuming that you have had the heater running this heater season and the problem just started.

YOU must find out if the problem is fuel delivery related or electronics related. Start by checking the pump pressure.

On the old spark plug heaters you could bypass the photocell to test. Not so on the new HSI heaters, The only way to test is either with the HA1170 ($150) diagnostic tool or to simply replace. Like the new cars- replace a part to see if it solves the problem.

I have reddy pro 170 i plug it in , the fan & igniter comes on for 10 to 15 seconds then shuts off ,blew through fuel line and nozzle still same result, i do see fuel mist coming out nozzle ,i dont k

You must make sure the mist is not to close to the igniter . If it is it wont be misty enough to ignite. And make sure its in the path of the mist. If its new return it to the store.

Heater will not light, i have followed the instructions ,turning thermostate all the way up first, and turn on now what happenes is the glow plug or igniter gets red hot the blower kicks on fuel sprays on...

If you brought the heater to our shop, and gave the above description, the first thing that we would do is check the air pump pressure.

Then, if the pressure is correct (not just close) we would check the photocell for signs of insect nest or something similar blocking the view of the eye.

You must troubleshoot to find out if the problem is fuel related or electronics related- maybe these tips will help (click for link).

You said the fan blows but does it light? Diesel may have gummed up the nozzle or pump or fuel line.

I hmodelrave a reddy kerosene heater model rm115 when i plug it in it runnes for 2 sec then stops i replug it in the same thing

my 115 heater did about the same thing.Fuel filter was plugged.Open up the side panel on the LH (as seen from the rear of heater), should have 4 screws.Filter will be pressed in the tank, mine came out with a little effort, but it is made of plastic so I was careful. There is a small arrow indicating flow direction so I used compressed air to blow back through it.Use a flash light and check in your fuel tank to see if there is any crud in it.I have my owners manual so if you need copy of it let me know .E-mail tireman5000@hotmail.com

Reddy heater 115 just turns on then shuts off

a new flame sensor is in order, if you have spark and it blows fuel then thats the answer. you can get one thet will fit from Mr. Heater for 3 bucks. the wires are different so just splice the to your old wire harness, there is no wrong way to hook them up.
