Question about Sony TCM-200DV Handheld Cassette Voice Recorder

Open Question

Making a cassette-recorder capable of overdubbing

I have a sony TCM 200dv tape recorder and i heard there is a piece you can remove to make it so that you can record multiple tracks over eachother without losing each previous one (so basically it can overdub) anyone know about this?

Have you taken a look at the edge of the tape? tracks 1 and 2 on a cassette are usually next to the edge and you may have a bad batch of tapes that have the edge damaged. Another possible but not a likley problem might be the tape is out of spec. for the width, and your heads MAY have a little wear from use, and are trying to act like tape guides. If the tape is slightly wider than the grove worn in the head, the tape would be lifted at the edge and not make contact to the head. It is not electronic as you have diagnosed this with other tapes. Give it a try and see!

  • So if I understand you right, and I think I do. You are putting the looping on so you can record your own tract but for some reason the amount of time you think you have recorded is not being reflected in listening to the playback correct?

  • When you push play then the beat will begin to play. It will continue to play until you stop it. Now while the beat is playing you want to hit "record" to record anything you want to have recorded. If you hit the record button again then this will pause what you are recording BUT you will continue to hear the loop. This allows you to choose different parts of the loop to lay a chop down on. So in other words if you press play (this allows the selected loop to being) then you press record to record everything. If you press record again while the loop is playing this will stop ALL recording but you will still hear the selected loop playing. You have to press record again to continue recording.

  • Also remember that if you have somehow reached 24 minutes of recording then you have to remove it to make room for more recording. You do this by hitting the "undu" button.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.
Regards, Tony

There is an interlock that prevents accidental recording. You may have to press PLAY and RECORD at the same time.

Vcr ejects tape when i try to record.

is the erase protection tab removed from the cassette?
if yes there is a square hole on the back of the tape visible when you insert it.
put a piece of sticky tape over this hole and make shure it does not come loose.
it should record fine now when you insert it again.

The screen that says reinsert the cassette.

Tht means the recording protector tab of the tape is on, check the tape, most or f the time there will be a plastic piece tht can be broken off if u need to prevent any thing from recording on it, try covering the hole with a piece of adhesive tape and try recording
