D-Link Wireless N Router purchased today and set up with no problems. Have Speedstream 4100 DSL router and HP G50-112NR Notebook PC. Network connection established and computer says I am connected to the internet, but when IE is started it can't connect. When I unplug the router and plug the DSL modem back in I can connect (that's how I'm communicating now).
Hello! your router needs configuration to settle the IP problems. Connect DSL modem to your router, then connect your computer to a router where DSL is connected. open internet browser. when you open it, of course it prompt you connection error. type this numbers to your search browser (192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1). thats the IP address of your router. A window will appear, enter the username and password, if it doesn't configure it, the username is (admin) and password is (admin), then if your in, Select Home where you can choose connections to your service provider. type select PPOE connection just type username and password, be sure to select DHCP mode. then save settings. thats it... the username and password is the one provided by your DSL provider if they did not give you any, ask them... if still things went wrong... ask assistance to your DSL service provider, let them configure it for you.
This should be connected as so. From wall outlet to DSL modem, from DSL modem to D-Link router, From D-Link router to Laptop via wireless or wired connection. You will still need the DSL modem installed but the wire coming from the DSL modem will go to uplink port on the router instead of into the laptop.
