Question about Pioneer Car Amplifier GM-5100T - 2CH 760 Watts Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Hits intemittently have pioneer GM-5100-T 760 watt amplifier hooked to 2 pioneer 12" subs 800w max. and have them bridged. At first the sound comes through really well and hits hard but the more you turn the gain up it cuts out at volume 34 to 36. i'm thinking that it is possible that it is not grounded well. i have it grounded to the bolt on the trunk lid. Any possible suggestions because I have already took the amp and speakers back and exchanged them and still them same problem. Please I need help.

Thanks for the thought of the problem but it turned out that the ground wire was not making a good connection where it was so after moving it to another location, the speaker sounds great. i was able to turn the gain up without causing the speakers to stop hitting. Now with that done I can't keep my rearview mirror adjusted.

Ive had problems kinda like this ... normaly its a crossed or reversed speaker wire check the positive and negitive wire into the speakers "they move sometimes when there is more air moving around the speaker"

second make sure you have the impedence correct "possitive to positive negitive to negitive'

hope this helps

Are subfoofer ts-w308d2 and amplifier GM-5300T compatible with each other?

Yes. You will be able to run this setup with the sub bridged across both channels of the amp, which will give you more power (which the sub will be able to handle: 380 watts rms), or with the sub wired to a single channel, which will give you less power (125 watts rms). The sub can handle 400 watts rms.

Car subwoofer problems

The cable should not cause the problem unless it is shorting out somewhere on the remote or positive cable. I would use a larger gauge wire first as this is the cheaper way to go, and if the same problem occurs you are having a short in the sub or box causing the protection mode. You will have to back trace to find possible cross connections.

How do I fix the problem so they work again.?

A 1000 WATT AMP HAS PROBABLY GONE INTO PROTECTION MODE BECAUSE YOU ARE TRYING TO RUN 1600 WATT SUBS COMBINED

Improper function

try hooking up your subwoofers in series. then connecting them bridged to the amplifier. as follows: positive from sub#1 into positive of amplifier left channel.. negative sub#1 into positive sub#2. negative sub#2 into negative amplifier right channel. turn the gain down as this will sound pretty loud.

Speakers

400 watts delivered to 300 watt speakers the only way to do this would be to wire two subwoofers in series so that the power needed to drive them will be 600 watts to max, however this will increase your impedance on the speaker (8 ohms) load so what you can do to compensate is get an 8 ohm 600 watt resistor and put it in parallel with the speakers you will then have 4 ohms of impedance at a total capacity of 600 watts of power In other words the amplifier won't blow these out now.

Speakers

Hi Trim God,

I do not reccommend that you push the Pioneer speakers over 100 watts.  The jenson will already drown the car with bass through your pioneers so much you will want to turn off the bass boost when playing some low bass hip hop songs. It changes from one venue of song to another, so I just keep the jenson bass boost off and use my head unit to adjsut the sound to fit my listening prefences. I am telling you man, you will be blown away .  Hook up the pioneers straight to the Channels,. do not bridge.  I put Subs in my truck though.  I used the Pass output to send the audio to me Jenson 2 Channel 600W amp. I drive one 10 inch enclosed JBL Class A/B Sub. I bridged the output of the 600 W amp to the 10 inch sub  in my Z28.  The pioneers never get drowned out.  I did smoke my 2 channel Amp one time. and also took out a MTD 10inch sub. I am talk shooting flames and smoked the whole car up. I think if you bride the XA4150 to the pioneers, you will have the flaming smoke problem in no time.

USING 1 CHANNEL

I can't find any documentation for your amp; it was made when Jensen was owned by Recoton, and they're no longer in business. With any 4-channel amp, you can't bridge all four channels into a single channel. What you can do, if you're connecting it to a single sub, is to bridge two of the channels into one channel and leave the other two channels unused. It doesn't usually matter which two channels you pick, but some 4-channel amps designate channels 3 and 4 (or rear channels) for the subwoofer. Whichever ones you use should have a "LPF" or "LP" crossover setting available.

Pioneer amp and sub problems

That's a 4-channel amp, not a 2-channel, which makes me wonder exactly how you have it hooked up to your sub. Is the LED light on the amp coming on? How many subs do you have hooked up to it, and how is it wired?

Amp is on, Subwoofer works, but no sound.

here is a short test you can try, remove the rca audio cable from the amp & connect a diskman or toher audio o/p device that you can hook up with the same rca wires, turn on the amp & see if you have sound. you can also remove the speaker wires from the sub & using multi meter read the ohm's of the sub, most subs are 4 ohm. Hope this help locate your problem
