SOURCE: Honda 160cc mower engine starts and dies.

Your carbeurator is crudded up. Get a can of aerosol carbeurator cleaner at any auto parts store. Remove the air filter and spray two squirts of cleaner into the air intake. Start the engine and keep it running by squirting more carb. cleaner into the air intake. WIth a little patience you will clean your carb. and solve your problem.

SOURCE: I have a 4 hp Briggs and Stratton engine - stops running with gas

01 Sounds like you are describing the primer as being on the front of the carburetor air filter body. The line you describe is probably used to force air from the primer into the carburetor or into the fuel tank (a box of metal about 6" long by 3" wide by 3" deep?) on which the carburetor body mounts, from your description.
02 The engine will shut down with a little bit of fuel in the bottom of that tank. You should be able to remove the fuel cap, located on the top of the tank, just to the left of the carb and see into the tank. The carb does draw fuel from this tank as it runs.
03 How long does it run before quitting? If it runs ok and you get a small yard done and the engine does not emit black smoke, that might be normal.

SOURCE: Engine starts and runs fine, then dies.

My 5hp B-S is doing the same thing and found a post that seems to be the best answer. Replace the float. It runs out of gas if the float is not working properly.
Another cause may be the diaphram, maybe.
Mine is 12 yrs old so I plan on getting the whole carb rebuild kit
while I have it apart
Good Luck

SOURCE: Toro GTS 20332 (bought it 12 months ago) won't run

I believe that Toro Guarantees to start 1 Pull, was gas left in it all winter?, If so this is'nt covered under warranty, cause gas is to be ran out or dumped out at end of season this will prevent any gumming up of carb . did you completely disassemble carb? does it have a primer on it, those gskts need replacing, clean out the jet in bottum of float bowl, small holes, sometimes missed and remove and check your needle/seat to make sure that when float drops gas runs out then lift float up and gas should stop. hope this helped you, another thing spray carb cleaner in carb and pull over and see if it will start that way enough to keep running with choke to see if it will **** gas into it

SOURCE: HI there, I got

There could well be a build up of sediment and debris in the main jet to the carburetor. It is easy to get to and clean. It is the brass bolt that holds the lower float bowl onto the main body of the carburetor. To clean it, drain your gas. Remove the bolt and external washer UNDER the carburetor bowl. Clean out the bowl of any sediment and/or water. To clean the brass bolt, use no metal objects. Carb/Choke aerosol spray cleaner will do the job. Pay close attention to the hole in the bottom of the bolt and the very small holes about 2/3 of the way up the bolt. Clean till shiny with holes cleared and reinstall. Your fuel flow problem and shut off condition may be solved.

12.5 v twin , new fuel pump and filter. Cleaned carburetor Starts and runs as long as you pour gas into carburetor. will not run otherwise.

Open the gas cap, remove the fuel line from the carburetor and use compressed air to blow the line clear. Having done what you have already if the line was clear, you would have gas to the carburetor.

Odd that it has had the issue since new. Could be the gas cap vent is plugged. Maybe paint over the vent hole? When it stalls, open the cap and listen for air entering the tank. Does it quit after running it for a while? Or does it quit regardless of run time when the tank is less than half full?

Will not start. but if I pour gas in carburetor it will. stop after the gas is burn of carburetor

Could be that the needle is stuck in carb, or else the fuel pump diaphragm is bad. Check the pump, thats what I would check first.

Have a compressor that is powered by a vanguard 16 hp v twin manual engine that runs perfectly but only for ten minutes at a time, any ideas

The vanguard engine has full pressure lubrication and a spin on filter..

if the oil is low, lost its weight, (Thin) it will shut off. Also depending on what carburetor this engine has (Walboro, nikki, makuni) it may also have a fuel shutoff solenoid located on the bottom of the carburetor.

This has a history of sticking, especially if the unit sat with fuel in it,

To test if its the oil pressure shutting down the engine, make sure you have the correct oil in engine (10w-30 or 30hd) look on the engine where the oil filter is located. There is a single wire (some have more) that leads to the pressure switch that is screwed into the oil filter housing. Unplug the wire and start the engine.

If it runs and does not shut off, its either the oil is too thin or a defective oil switch. If the engine shut off, then reconnect the wire.
The problem will be fuel carburetion or both.

To see if its the crburetor, remove the air cleaner and remove the air filter. Take a can of carburetor cleaner and restart the engine.. as the engine starts to die, spray carb spray into the engine. Did it continue to run? If so its fuel.. if not its carburetion..

getting to the carburetor will be a task. you have to remove the air shroud. If you need more info e mail me direct and I will give you links to briggs and stratton on how to tear the unit down to get to the carburetor and whats involved.. Or let a ocal shop look at it for you.

My steem pressure washer has a twin overhead cam briggs motor.... I cant seam to get fuel to flow into the nikki carb. Is there something missing? Like a fuel pump?

If the gas is higher that the carb it will not have a fuel pump. Have you unhooked the fuel at the carb to see if fuel is getting to the carb? If it is not you have a blockage in the tank or fuel line or a clogged filter. If fuel is reaching the carb you have a stuck needle.
