Hello! okay heres how, See your manual if you have, but if doesn't don't mind! Just insert your HP CD then locate Omni Page installer then install it.  You need to install it because thats how conversions take place. Of course, you can't expect quality output on pictures but text will be converted into RTF or rich text format which you can edit it later on MS Word. then, after you install it, locate the program and run it. Just follow onscreen instructions and you'll be good.

I want to scan word documents to then edit them in word. All I end up with is the text with a box around it and I cant edit the text.

There is no scanning of a word document - you are scanning an image. If that image is a page with words printed on it or a picture , it doesn't mater to the scanner, to it all are pictures. So in the end you have a picture of the scanned image - in your case a picture of the page. Since you can't edit a picture with word you must convert that picture into an word document. For that you use an OCR program This printer has an OCR program in it, but you must activate and guide it yourself, it won't do the job automatically. To learn how to use it launch the installed HP Solution Center from your pc, it's a part of the driver that should have been installed with it.

I want to scan some letters and nothing happens when I hit the scan button.

I am assuming that you can print. If so, we can assume that the driver is installed correctly.

You may have to work with the HP software on your computer (especially the first time).

Try looking under start, programs, HP and look for the scanning software. Start it up and tell it to scan a page. You should be asked a few questions about color and quality, text or no text.

See if that helps.

I have an HP Deskjet F4440 that will print/scan/copy. But when I scan a letter and open the file it is in a format that I can't read. How do I scan a letter and put it into a format that I can read?

You need to scan into a Word Processor, like, Word or Adobe PDF, or Publisher, you need OCR (Optical Character recognition)software to have this. Scanners usually ONLY scan as Pictures. and save as Picture files, BMP, MPG, TIFF. NOT as text.'

My f340 all in one printer-scanner and copier, is copping very slow from the start copy

Hi theodo13
If your document has typing and line drawings only the printer will priint according to the speed they claim to have.
However if there are few photos, scanned images or color shadings, the printer becomes very slow.
Try to print a page of typed text only, then you will know there is actually a problem with the printer.

Have a good day

Printer will not print.

go to Start, Settings, Control panel, printers and faxes is your printer there? is there a checkmark? no, then right click and set as default, put your mouse over it does it say Ready? no, then change cable.

send test page, it should print, if not the USB or Parrallel input of your printer has a problem.
