Chkdsk

it cant open for direct access because it has a recovery partition installed instead, Im quite sure with lennovo you can use the recovery manager to restore with your files intact as one of the restoration methods, so have a lok at the lennovo restore options, I would also run antivirus and antimalware through it just to be sure, also to run chkdsk on next boot right click C drive and scroll down to properties and left click, then find tools tab and see check now tab in error reporting, you will get a message to say volume locked run on next boot, click ok and reboot, when the prompt for dskchk comes up dont hit escape or will cancel test. let me know how it goes

Fujitsu Siemens CPU Fan does not spin?

First check to make certain the fan is plugged into the motherboard.

Follow the connector from the cooler unit to the m.b.

When you've located the proper plug - unplug it and then re-plug it back in, making sure it is firmly plugged in (make sure you turn off the power and unplug from the wall before doing any of this).

Then look at the fan closely and make sure it's not overly dusty or dirty.

This can clog up the fan and cause it to stop working.

If you've done all this and powered back up, and it's still not working - then you need to get a new fan.

Do not run your system without this cooling fan because you can fry your CPU.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OIL OR LUBE FAN THIS CAN END IN DISASTER

hope this helps

Compaq Presario V2000 runs very slow!

First thing you should do is run some free virus and malware scanning programs.

Get and run Combofix
Link: http://majorgeeks.com/Combofix_d6402.html

Then get and run Malwarebytes Anti-malware
Link: http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756

Get CCleaner to clean up your computer a bit.
Link : http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Standard_d5125.html

Then put Avira Antivirus on it. This will slow the computer down a little but will keep future viruses off of it.

Im trying to reset my whole computer back to factory settings and dont have the cd. and i do have the empowering technology thing but dont have the password to that the hint is balloon and i dont even know...

The default empowering password is 000000. That would be five or six zeros, I am fairly certain it is 6. You will need to boot from the original C drive for the factory restore to work. Once you enter the password in the empowering technology, you should find the option for a full factory restore.

Hope this helps

Hp pavilion dv7-1135nr will not start up....blank screen blinking cursor

Larry,

There are many circumstances that can create a blinking cursor.

First, check the laptop and make sure that there are no extra devices plugged into it, and that there are no CD/DVDs in the optical drive. Then, unplug the power cord and remove the battery. Then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power in the laptop. After that, plug back in just the power cord (leave the battery out) and try to turn the system back on.

If it goes to the blinking cursor, power the system back off. You'll need to boot up into the BIOS now and reset the BIOS defaults. To get into the BIOS on that computer, you will need to start it up - and when you see the very first screen, there should be a message to press ESC to enter the setup. Press the ESC key a few times when you see that message and then at the menu press F10 to enter the BIOS Setup. Once you are in the setup, use your arrow keys to move to the option for Load Setup Defaults. (That option might be under the Exit area.) Then after you've loaded the defaults, make sure to save changes and exit. Try to boot up again. If it still brings you to a flashing cursor, then we need to try to run the diagnostics on the computer.

To get the computer to run diagnostics, try pressing the F2 key during the first screen when the computer turns on. If the diags run and the hard drive passes, then you'll need to look at running the F11 recovery at startup. The F11 recover will erase all of the files on the computer and restore it to the factory default - so be aware that this is a last effort solution.

If you need to have data recovered off of the computer, you will need to take it to a certified technician who can remove the hard drive from the laptop and pull the data off of the hard drive via a slave system.

If the hard drive fails the diagnostics, you will need to contact HP for a replacement disk. You can get that process started by calling HP at 866-234-1377.

Let me know how things turn out!

I've been at this all day and still have'nt gotten my laptop to reset to a factory default setting. Can you please guide me through this process, step by step. Thankyou.

You can always restore the computer to a point when it was working fine.
For a laptop when you say factory defaults we've two things
1)Factory defaults on the Bios - as soon as u turn on the laptop we press F8 key or DEL(depends on the brand of the laptop) to get to the BIOS and you've an option to revert to the factory defaults.
It is advisable not touch the BIOS if you are not sure about this firmware
2)The operating system (lik windows xp,vista & 7) there is nothing called factory defaults for this all we've is a installation of the Operating system itself. However we can revert or restore back to last know good configuration mode.

How to start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:
  1. Start your computer.
  2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
  3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
  4. If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER

Why acer aspire one d255 run so slow, shut down so slow

System recovery is only really needed if you have malware infections that can't be removed by anti-malware programs or if you've had your computer for years and never bothered to clear out the rubbish that accumulates over time. If you clean your computer and scan for malware regularly (once a week for both) then you should be able to delay having to use System Recovery. I use my computer A LOT and use System Recovery about every 2 years.
Here are some links for cleaning software and anti-malware that are all excellent products and totally free :

1/. http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER
Run cleaner then registry - fix issues

2/. http://advanced-systemcare.en.softonic.com/download
Run deep care cleaner, then open Toolbox and run Ram cleaner deep scan, then minimise. Get to know the toolbox, it does some amazing things.

3/. http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html?part=dl-6267754&subj=dl&tag=button
Analyse your hard drive then defragment & optimise.

4/. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button
Run scan for malware and follow instructions if any is discovered.

If you use the 2 cleaners and the malware scanner once a week your system will function well. The cleaners take a few minutes & the malware scanner about 30 mins.
You should only need to use the defrag once a month. This takes about 30 mins.

If you've used these and there is no major improvement then System Recovery is your only option.
Don't forget to reload all of these tool after System Recovery and use them regularly as I've recommended & you will keep your computer running really well.

I hope this helps.
