The HH indicates that the control believes that the temperature is over 99. This happens when a) it is over 99 degrees (not likely or you would not be using the heater), or b) the thermistor is not plugged in or bad.

a) unplug your heater
b) remove the control cover (two screws where the display and knob are)
c) find the thin black wires with a green connector on the end. The other end of the wire are attached to the thermistor which looks like a balistic missile.
d) plug the green connector onto the white two pin connector on the circuit board. This is the only place that it will fit.

That should solve the problem.

I had my heater on and when I went to turn it off it showed "HH" in the digital display

On many types of heat controler HH stands for high, high set limit, if your unit shut down because of this-look@ the rear of the unit below the handle close to the fan for a reset, push it in and see if it starts back up for ya, hope this helps.

Burners shut down at set temp but fan continues lowering temp

the reason he told you not to cycle the power is because some where there is a flashing light that he can decode and tell him where to start looking for the problem. Call him next it happens and don't touch the power or the stat until he gets to see the unit.

Reddy Heater 70 (Kerosene) won't start

In the same temperature range that is giving you trouble, run an ext cord (110v) from a known good household circuit and plug the heater into the cord. If the heater runs OK, then the inverter is your problem.
