Question about Behringer Ultralink WMI2000 Professional Microphone

1 Answer

Switcing on I've just bought secondhand one of these. It has a tiny on/off switch in the microphone which has to be held on for 2 seconds, but I've only managed to get this working once. At other times nothing happens. I'm certain the batteries are good & properly connected. Is there something I'm not doing or is there a fault?

Re: Switcing on

Here is the link to the product page on the website - there you can find the user manual and much more; check page 12 and 13 about channel selection, and page 24 has a good summary of the procedure. If you still have a problem after doing this then there is almost certainly a fault - the fact that you got it working once would indicate that the switch itself, or a connection inside the mic near the switch may be the problem. If you fancy trying to hunt this fault down yourself and want some pointers, please post again, if not it may be cheaper to get a new mic than to get it repaired professionally, but ask for a quote just to check this. Hope this helps :)

Your brand new secondhand USX-800 may be no good. From your description it seems you have done everything possible to get it to work

CAD GXL2200 stopped working.

The first thing you can try is to unscrew the base by turning counter-clockwise, holding the body and screen together carefully. Then carefully slide the main body sleeve downward, and off. The rest of the mic is held together with a frame. You will be able to inspect all the internal wiring and solder joints for poor connections or cracks, The rear PC board is held on by two tiny Philips screws. Remove them and slowly lift the back PC board - it is connected by 3 short wires. This will just allow you to inspect the PC board for bad solder joints or cracks in the metal film. If that doesn't help, you may have to start removing and testing diodes and transistors etc.

BTW, on the front board you will find a tiny lo-cut switch I'll bet you didn't know you had.

I have bought an sE USB1000a condenser, and am pretty new to microphones. what does the ' . A P ' switch on the front do?

For what I could find, the A-P switch is the Apple/PC switch, which
should compensate for the difference in signal sensitivity between
the 2 types of computersystems.

My microphone doesn't work, I can't hear any voice. Can you help me? That is R21S microphone

its probably a wire came loose, unscrew the head (airguard) then you should h ave 2 tiny screws that hold the switch in place, carefully slide it forward and as you do push the main cord for the amp plug in along with it as you push it through,, check those wires to be sure the connection hasn't come loose

I had to buy a new power adapter for my stage 5h wireless system. When I plug it in, the power LED flashes. Is that what it is suppose to do? I can't get it to work at with the new adapter.

No it shouldn't flash. Did you buy the manufacturers own power adapter or did you just buy a universal one?
If you bought a universal it could be that you have the wrong polarity (+ve and -ve the wrong way round)

Can you tell me the plug wiring mike end

It should be standard balanced XLR. The wiring is 1= ground/shield, 2=hot(+ve), 3=cold (-ve). Do not bridge any of the pins especially not 1 and 3 if you are using phantom power with this microphone. Let me know if this helps please.

How I know that my cables are indeed balanced?

You can do this two ways. ! Try disassembling the XLR plugs and examining the wiring on both ends of the cable. Pin 1= ground/shield, Pin2= hot(+ve), Pin 3= cold(-ve). Pins 1 and 3 should not be connected to each other (bridged) in any way. Neither should 1 and 2. 2 Use a volt ohm meter to test from each pin on one end of the cable to each pin on the other end and note the reading. Pins 1 and 3 and pins 1 and 2 should again not be connected.Hope this helps.

Microphone does not pick up any sound

Your mike requires a 48 volt phantom power supply which your preamp should be supplying. The most commonly overlooked problem is the cable. It must be wired for a balanced connection for phantom power to work correctly. 1=ground/shield, 2=hot(ve) and 3=cold(ve). None of these connections should be bridged to another and need to be kept separate to maintain a balanced connection. You will need to eliminate the preamp and mike cable as sources of the problem in order to determine if the mike is working correctly. You need to test this combination with a volt /ohm meter. If you don't know how to do this you should take it to the dealer you bought it from for testing or advice.
