You should need to just log onto the router, usually 10.1.1.1 is the DG and u/n and p/w admin , admin... then look for the wifi security and enter what ever you want it to be :)

I purchased a router, I need to know do I need cable in order for it to work on my computer? It is a D-Link DI-604

You are correct, the DI604 is Ethernet connection only, not wireless. If you want wireless, return this router and get one with wireless capability.

I have a d-link router di-524 how do i set security to control or stop others using it to connect to the internet

>connect to the router using an Ethernet cable (looks like a phone cord but fatter, router configuration is not recommended via wireless connection)

>click start -> run then type in the box that pops up "cmd" without the quotes and hit OK

>black box (command prompt) on screen, type "ipconfig" again without the quotes.

>look for the Default Gateway address (that's the router) and type that exact address in Internet Explorer.

>now you'll have the router's configuration page, look for Wireless then the Security option will be presented to you.

>self explanatory setup. good luck

How do I secure the wireless router with a pass word

in esence what you do is:

1. go into configuration page (check your router manual or documentation)
2. go into wireless
3. change the defaul SSID (that is the network name or Access point name or your router name)
4. make a note of the SSID you have defined (you needed when setting up your client computer)
5. if you want you can stop broadcasting the SSID (recommeded.. that's why you noted that on previous step
4. set up your encription method (wep, wpa, wpa2).. wp2 is recommeded or wpa if wpa2 is not avaliable or wep if that's the only option as it is better than nothing.
5. configure and note you passphrase/key (you need this to configure your client computer)

this is a good article that will give you some fundaments
