Question about Pentax Optio S5i Digital Camera
Mr "life's good" - are you still out there? Last December you suggested replacing a small watch battery under the memory card that causes the camera to self-destruct after a few years (ref: S5i won't turn on in Capture mode, Dec 15, 2006). I have dismantled the thing as far as I can, I think I can now see the battery, but I can't figure out how to release the two orange ribbon cables that fasten the button pad to the rest of the camera. Can you offer further advice? Can anyone else?
Do not attempt to disconnect the ribbons. They are very fiddly to reconnect and are easily damaged. You must bypass the battery(which is always spot welded to the PCB.It is easier to super glue the wires instead of soldering and to make sure you wrap new battery it insulating tape.
