Plotters use Pens and Draw on paper.
Contact printers are DOT MATRIX printers that use a ribbon of ink being struck by a print head consisting of at least 9 pins. These prins are protruded in the shape of the charectars by electric charge just prior to striking the ribbon against the paper like a old fassion typewriter.
Inkjets vaporise and Squirt ink at the paper using liquid ink. The ink is vaporised by the print head getting hot and consist of lots of ports that are heated to create the character shape. They never touch the paper...ever
Laserjets use powdered ink (toner) which, using heat, fuze the powder to the paper. Lasers are used to apply an electric charge to the paper to attract toner to exactly where it is required. (they also create Ozone as a by-product of the fuzing process)
The immage is never Burned on the paper it is fuzed. Heat being the catalist to change the properties of the powder.

An ink jet printer used water soluable inks. Simply stated they are liquid inks sprayed onto the paper, via Jets, there fore the name ink jet printer. These inks are suspect to losing images when they become wet.

A laser printer one of a variety of toner types that are made of some fusable, ( meltable) ink.
They are placed onto the paper by static and then heat and pressure affixed to the paper. Otherwise known as fusing.
These images are considered permanent and will not be lost due to moisture.
Hope this helps.
Dot matrix, is, simply explained, a very fast type writer, that only has dots that print on contact with a ribbon to the paper.

inkjet pinters are known as contact printers cause its basically a pen drawing on the paper and it makes contact.
Laser printers use toner instead of ink and work like a xerox machine. the image is 'burned' onto the paper in a way and the spec color toner is put on top of it.
