Question about KitchenAid KGSA906PSS Gas Kitchen Range

Gas Range, trouble igniting

I have a KitchenAid gas Range. My bottom burner periodically stops igniting. The igniter seems to spark and the gas sounds like it is flowing and I can smell it. The Range saftey stops the igniter after 4 attempts and trys 5 min later. This goes on for a while, three or four attempts then I shut down out of frustation. I adjust the air flow control by the venturi and bang it goes on the first spark. The problem is that I have to do this every couple of days to make it work. Do I have a range issue or gas quality issue?

where and how do you make this adjustment

  • Anonymous Jan 26, 2009

I have the same issue. Sometimes it fires up the first try and other times it will cycle the iginitor and keep trying for what seems like forever. I have never adjusted anything, I just turn it off and then try and start it again (sometimes it works and other times I turn it off and on several times).

It is likely that the ignitor needs to be replaced. If the range does not sense the correct amount of resitance in the ignitor it turns the gas valve off. When the ignitor is starting to fail the problem is intermittent, so the range turns on and off as you have described.

Range: Gas burner won't spark or ignite A surface burner igniter switch and a spark module activate the spark electrode when a burner is turned to the "Lite" position on a gas range's cooktop. If the surface burner switch, spark module or wiring in that circuit fails, the spark electrode won't work, and as a result the gas burner won't light. If those components work but the electrode won't spark, the problem could be that the spark electrode is coated with spilled food of is bent or broken. In addition, the electrode won't spark or ignite the burner properly if the ceramic insulation sleeve below the tip of the electrode is cracked or broken. If the gas burner isn't lighting, these repairs may help.

Replace the spark igniter electrode

1396454293470.jpg The spark igniter electrode-also called the surface burner igniter-is an insulated electrode that provides an ignition spark to light a surface gas burner. It sparks and makes a ticking sound when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the spark ignition electrode if it fails to spark or if the ceramic insulation sleeve is cracked or chipped. How to Replace a Spark Igniter Electrode in a Gas Range Find This Part

Replace the surface spark module

1377098014986.jpg The surface spark module is in the ignition circuit for the gas surface burners. When a surface burner control knob is turned to the "Lite" position, it provides voltage to the spark electrodes on the gas surface burners. If the surface spark module fails to provide the electrodes with voltage, then it should be replaced. Find This Part

Replace the spark igniter switch

1396454315355.jpg The igniter switch is an electrical switch on the stem of the gas surface burner control valve. This switch completes a circuit to the surface burner spark module, causing the burner igniters to spark when the burner switch is turned to the Lite position. Replace the burner igniter switch if the burners don't spark when you turn the burner control knob to the Lite position or if igniters spark constantly even when the burner knobs are in the Off position.

I havef a KitchenAid Gas Range Model KGSS907... and one of the ignitors on one of the burners is not sparking. I tried to take the stove top off to check the wire to the ignitor but don't see how to...

Hello,

Typically the burner come off by removing the burner caps and inside the burners are 2 screws that hold the burner base to the top..yes you could swap igniters on all burners they will be the same. If by swapping the igniters it still doesnt work the things that could be the problem are;

the spark module espically if the igniter that doesnt work on that burner suddendly work on a different burner

the spark switch on the gas valve for that burner..typically all burners spark when one it turned on but the only one that lights is one that has gas flow to it..so turning on a different burner first and leave it set to light setting by turning on the one that doesnt light it will light if that spark switch is the problem

of course a cracked igniter

a broken wire from the spark module to that igniter taht doesnt work..its not that uncommon that the insulation will sometimes wear off a wire off so the electric that should be going from the spark module to the igniter is instead being grounded by that wire touching the metal on the frame uninsulated

Good luck,i hope i have been able to help you fix your range,

Yes,all burners spark as a safety feature in the event any gas knob is turned on.
The non sparking burner could be from a bad spark electrode, poor grounding on the burner cap or a bad spark switch for that burner.

Oven set at 350, won't get there. kitchenaid mod#kgrt607hwho.

This sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Ka gas range the glow bar comes on but it takes sometimes 15 to 20 min before gas is supplied to burner in oven and finaly ignites

Hi, this sounds like a weak igniter, it would have to be a gas oven and the symptoms usually are: takes longer than normal to ignite the burner, may or may not smell gas in the oven, if it does light the burner, there may be delayed ignition (pop), does not maintain set temperature or burner does not come on fully, eventually won't heat at all. On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

Oven will not light. If I take bottom drawer out and tap on valve components with screwdriver handle, I can hear gas release and burner ignites. Same with broiler ignition.

you may have a weak ignitor. it is exactly what you are describing for troubles. just replace the bake ignitor and see if that gets you to have heat from the bake burner.
very common problem.

Gas burners are ticking

The ticking sound you hear is the electronic ignition which is located by each burner. When you turn a burner on the electronic ignition creates a spark which ignites the gas. Once the burner is ignited. turn the knob a bit further and the ticking will stop.

Large Burners do not re-ignite

When you are having trouble igniting that one burner, have you tried the other burners?

If they're all the same - i.e. none of them will work at any particular time, that's the spark module.
If some work while one or more don't, that's the burner switches under the knobs.

I doubt this has anything to do with your husband's previous repair; that is, unless you find one of these wires pinched inside.

Good luck!
