Who provides the netgear, the internet provider, or you purchased it yourself?

If you haven't already, power cycle the router. Also, make sure you run through the setup again to verify all the settings are properly setup, skipping through any sections that don't need to be changed.

Had the same problem found but from the start. Had to reinstall windows and check connectivity before installing norton. Then installed norton and it blocked it. just changed firewall settings so ip matched xbox as an allowed sharing device and it worked ok. But it would not do it before i reinstalled windows. a bit extreme but it worked. Now i can read all but my video files after a week of it working fine.lol

Prompted by consumer reaction to their February 2007 report, Kassa performed several tests with Xbox 360s from customers who claimed their Xbox had the problem. Kassa stabilized these consoles and positioned them at a location remote from contact by anyone. The results of the laboratory conditions test revealed that one of the nine tested Xbox 360s had spontaneously scratched a disc after five hours of gaming. The consoles were also tested standing upright, and the test revealed that three of the nine tested Xbox 360s significantly scratched discs. The video of the complete investigation, meticulously documenting the methodology, and all the relevant details of the tests, was made ready to be a

Connect tv to network

Get them from the net gear router if you can.
Or one of the PC's connected to the network.
the subnet and the router you need will be identical to that of the PC.
the only change you need to make to the IP address is to make sure that the last octet is different to all others on the network.
The IP address is made up of 4 octets. looking something like 192.168.1.28
or similar. In this instance 28 is the last octet.
DNS is not required for this setup.

No, You do not have to change your xbox
No, You do not have to change you gamer tag
Yes, you can recover your profile

What your having is an internet issue, you must contact your internet service provider first. Xbox console connect with different connection as Static IP service (House Line) or Dynamic IP Service (Cable). Normally the person that installes your internet should help you configure all the equipment as they are trained for that service.

Trying to conect laptop to virgin media with netgear wireless adaptor the signal is strong but could not conect windows say to contact provider provider gave me number to enter 192.168.0.1 now i am lost

The router is not connected to the internet via Virgin media.

Your computer is connected only to the router wirelessly, that is why it says contact your internet supplier on how to connect the router successfully!

I have not used my laptop for a while and when i came to use it my wireless connection wont work i have a netgear virgin system installed.

Check in the device manager if your computer is seeing the wireless card driver.
Right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, network adapters.
Is the wireless card listed?
If it is right click uninstall and reboot on reboot the wireless card should be seen as new hardware follow the wizard and let it install the driver.
If the computer is seeing the card but it has a yellow mark next to it the driver is not loaded you need to get the appropriate driver for that type of card from it's support site or once again try the uninstall reboot.
That’s the wireless card.
Is the net-gear showing an internet connection.
Put a cat 5 cable from your laptop to the net-gear and try to connect via cable if that works it's got to be the wireless card driver or the wireless settings in the net-gear however if they worked previously there is no reason to suspect the router settings.
Hope this helps

Unable to connect to internet via router.Computer says signal strength is excellent.diagnostic check highlighted DNS problem.I think VIRGIN (my isp) have recently changed their DNS nos. Virgin (my isp)...

If you're using an ADSL connection the details you need are below.

Settings for an ADSL connection through a telephone line.

Open a web browser and log onto your router.

Find Internet Wan > Connection Type.

Set the Router to use PPPoA, type in your User Name and Password in the spaces provided. If you do not have a Service Name or do not know it, leave the Service Name field blank. After you have typed in your information, click "Apply Changes". After you apply the changes, the Internet Status indicator will read "Connected" if your Router is set up properly.

WAN > Connection Type PPPoA
User Name > firstname.name@adsl.virgin.net (or virgin.com or whatever)
Password > *******
Retype Password > *******
VPI/VCI > 0 / 38
Encapsulation > VC MUX
MTU > Leave as Default

Find Internet Wan > DNS.
Select Automatic from ISP
(Virginmedia DNS servers are Primary: 194.168.4.100 Secondary: 194.168.8.100)

Find Lan Setup > Lan Settings
Ensure DHCP Server is set to On

If the details entered are correct the router will show connected and the internet lamp will be green.

Do the configuration on a wired connection.

I have a modem supplied by virgin media can i

Well, Virgin Media provides Cable Internet connection and with those connections you can not use this ADSL modem. If you have internet services from Virgin.net then only you will be able to use this modem with them. This modem will not work with Virgin Media connection.

Hope this answers your query.

ADSL Zoom x6 5590 DNS 360 Problem

Yes the router assigns an internal IP address. connect it up then using your PC go into the configuration of your router (http://10.0.0.2) and look under system status, scroll to the bottom and under DCHP status you will see a list of all clients connected. Your Xbox will be listed along with its internal IP address.

You need to enter the router configuration. How you do this varies by model, but usually involves typing your gateway address into a web browser. Then, you need to assign your xbox an internal IP address and activate port triggering or forwarding (depending on the sophistication of your device) to send information on the designated ports to the Xbox. Was this solution helpful? Media access crontrol (MAC) address

Hi Stevetabor9,

Finding and Registering Your Xbox Console's MAC Address
  1. Turn on your Xbox console with no game disc in the disc tray.
  2. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose Settings, and then Network Settings.
  3. The 12-digit number at the bottom-right corner of theNetwork Settings screen is the MAC address of your Xbox console. Do not change your Xbox console MAC address; just write it down so that you can use it later.
  4. If you have a direct connection from your Xbox to your modem, you'll have to disconnect it and reconnect your PC to access the Internet.
  5. From your PC, open the following page:
    British Columbia: http://oca.bc.hsia.telus.net
    Alberta: http://oca.ab.hsia.telus.net.
  6. Log in using your Telus Velocity Internet Service account.
  7. Select Manual Registration and Administration of PC's and Devices.
  8. In an available slot, enter the MAC address of your Xbox console, then select Update.
  9. Follow the steps in Direct Connection with Telus to try to connect to Xbox Live again.
Registering Your Router MAC Address
  1. See your router documentation to find your router MAC address.
  2. Before disconnecting your PC from the Internet to set up a router connection, open the following page:
    British Columbia: http://oca.bc.hsia.telus.net
    Alberta: http://oca.ab.hsia.telus.net.
  3. Log in using your Telus Velocity Internet Service account.
  4. Select Manual Registration and Administration of PC's and Devices.
  5. In an available slot, enter the MAC address of your router, then select Update.
  6. Set up a router connection to Telus and try to connect to Xbox Live again.
take care
