Question about Zenith D60WLCD 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

3 Answers

Discolored picture I have had my tv for about 4 years and it has been out of service for half of that. The bottom corners turned blue and then the middle of the picture turned yellow. I talked to and emailed the Zenith company (customer dis service)and was told that it was out of warranty and that repairs would have to be at my expence. I had a Zenith repair rep look at it and he said that the light engine was bad and would probably cost about $1500 to repair. I have been in the television repair business since 1975, so I took the set apart myslef and found that the blue polarizer was burnt in the center. I again emailed Zenith explaining the problem and I found and also that there is a service bulletin on the problem. This is labeled Xcute 125 and is titled "LCD engine's UV cut filter application". I was informed by the company that they were very sorry that I had taken the set apart myself and had I not done this they may have ben able to extend the warranty. Good reply after telling me that there was no coverage. I only wanted them to supply me with the parts at that time. Still trying to get it repared or at best find parts, but in the mean time I am watching my 15", cost $200 (sitting in front of the 60", cost $3000). Won't be buying or recommending this brand.

I just called 877-993-6484. After on hold long time. Helpfully guy took all my information. I wasn't at home so couldn't give date of purchase or serial number. Told me there is a bulletin and once I provide them with serial number they will replace a lamp free of charge. Labor and parts. So call the number and see. Once officially fixed for free I'll believe it.

Jvc 52 inch tv. the picture on the upper left corner drops and is discolored

Hi if your tv is a Dlp or Lcd it will be a problem with the light engine.Basically there's 3 chips green, blue, red that create the image and colors. When they start to go bad or melt you will get color discoloration on corners on the center. You will need to replace the optical block ,you can find it on www.discount-merchant.com www.shopjimmy.com or ebay .Have a blessed day!

Blue color flowing from side and bottom into picture

Sony tech support (no charge) said it was definitely not the lamp.
Their suggestion- By unplugging the TV for a minute then turning back on, the blue color was substantially but not toally reduced.
Perhaps there is an electrical charge building up distoring the color by having the TV in the ready mode for too long and by unplugging, the charge dissipates?
No other phone solution recommended other than calling for repairs.

No Blue

The bulls eye is what us TV repair guys call it. It is a perfect description. The tube is good. The automatic degausing circuit is not working because the black square thermistor D805 needs resoldering on the bottom of the board. You will find that a magnet will affect it, and a degaussing coil will make it look perfect for 1 week. Soldering the thermistor is a permanent solution.

Interference?

The picture tube on a TV can be magnitized by the Earth's magnetic field. The noise heard when you turn a TV on (usually followed by a static noise on the face on the TV) is called degauss. What this does it remove any magnetic variations on the tube due to things like the magnetic field and speakers. However, changes to the TV in orientation to the Earths magnetic field will cause the tube to have a magnetic bias. This is most prominent when turned 90 degrees. The easy way to clear this is to turn the TV off for a little while and then turn it back on. But remember that any movement once it is on can cause the discolorations to reappear. My suggestion would be to turn the tv after you've moved it to the location you'd like to view it.
