Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

1 Answer

Water leaks from two locations on my Badger 5, 1/2 hp disposal

Approximately six inches from the bottom of my Badger 5, 1/2 horsepower disposal in my kitchen sink water has begun leaking out of two small holes that are 180 degrees apart. Are these 2 holes due to corrosion and use? It just seems strange that there would be two holes, the same size, exactly opposite from one another, 6 inches up from the bottom, that started leaking at the same time.

Is it time to replace my disposal?

Thank you!
Rick Kettell

I have a similar problem; leak from the area where the bottom cannister appears to join the top unit. It sounds like there are no gaskets or seals involved.

These holes are probably due to wear, as they are at about the level of the cutter. In general, residential disposals are not repairable and once they begin to leak, they must be replaced. The Badger series is Insinkerator's budget line and probably has about a 5 year lifespan with normal use.

My badger 5 disposal is leaking from the side whats wrong

Check where leak is coming from.
1) Run water until leak starts. Use dry paper towel near top of disposal to see if sink strainer is leaking.
2) Move paper towel down and check where dishwasher connects to disposal.
3) Move paper towel down to tubular drain tailpiece.

4) Water should run down side of disposal if sink strainer, dishwasher connection or tailpiece are leaking. You can fix these problems using tips below.

5) If disposal is rusted out, then water will leak out of bottom or side of disposal body.
There are no repairs or repair parts for disposals.

My insinkerator Badger 5 is leaking from the bottom. It runs, but water runs out of all spots on the bottom; including the ara where the conduit runs into the unit - please help!

Hi,
My bet is that the garbage disposal in not what is leaking... the connection to the bottom of the sink is leaking and running down the sides of the disposer...
Look higher and you will find your leak..

Water is coming out the bottom of my Badger 1 disposal. Solution???

Check the fittings, the hoses could be loose... If the leak isn't coming from there then you have a seal leaking or a rust through that is causing water to leak and would need to replace the disposal.
