Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Reboot My compaq presario laptop keeps rebooting and I cannot find a solution. I have already run the recovery disk. All the drivers are up to date. This was due to a virus that Norton did not detect. Any comments?

Congrats on the fixing it yourself. Just for future reference I would suggest AVG for your anti virus. It is free and it does not slow your system down as much. If you google Free AVG you will find where to download it. Also if you run spybot search and destroy it will prevent a lot of spyware that will lead to these types of virus' on your computer.

How can I put my Compaq Presario F756NR back to the factory configuration?

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select the first date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

If you feel that my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

Recovery disk

Got this information from online technical support of compaq. You need to order the recovery disk online and need to provide the following details. Check out this link http://h18000.www1.hp.com/
  • serial # of your laptop
  • medel #
Or you can just install the operating system and device drivers. To download drivers click on this link http://h18000.www1.hp.com/cpq_support.html and key in your product number (this is found under your laptop)

Compaq presario recovery commands

try starting the computer with the disk in the drive, I had to run the recovery disk on my compaq a few years ago, I think the disks pretty much tell you what to do. If you want to wipe it clear and lose everything type fdisk in the start/run prompt field. Then the recovery disk puts it all back to factory .
