If you hook up all the wires in the front then switch to input on your tv remote it should work.

Hi, we have a 19"

This is just a guess here but I will go for it. Get the TV remote and select TV then find a button that says either device or input if there is a input button then select it this takes you to AVI or DVI or HDMI or TV or whatever selections you may have listed for your TV, this controls the inputs to your TV you will have to find out the input by slowly pressing each one of them with the HD box on or the HD cable connected and powered on forget about the player for the moment.

That would be later when you set the input or learn how to set the inputs. Because each remote is different I do not know the exact wording on your remote so you will have to bare with me here and see if you can find anything close to input or devices hopefully it will just say that on the remote. Make sure that you select the TV then the input if you find the right input you will see HD TV playing again on the TV. Now when you wish to hook up the DVD section of the TV you will have to choose either the button on the remote that says DVD and TV button you will be able to switch between each one. I hope that this assisted you kinda in the blind but I thought I would give it a good go at it.

Thanks for using FixYa! cast a vote for me if I assisted in any way. John

Sharp Actius AV18 does not recognize added 512MB PC2700 RAM. The machine still only sees 256MB. Is there something else I need to do?

I assume the laptop had originally 256Mb RAM and you put 512Mb RAM in a the spare memory slot and you expected to see 768Mb of memory, is this correct? Try removing the 256Mb memory module and insert the 512Mb memory module and see if the laptop boots up with 512Mb of RAM. If it doesn't boot up then the RAM is either incompatible or faulty. Try using RAM modules from the same manufacturer.

Sharp PC-AV18: Is ram and/or hard drive upgradable?

Yes, if you have 256MB RAM, you can put another 512MB.
Also 40GB HDD to 60/80/100 or more.

Playing movies from external hard drive

Hi rox09
Well you can rip your DVD to any external drive using and third party DVD ripping software ,once you do that you will get a AVI,MPEG and any common fomats your DVD player supports

Inorder to play those files in your DVD player ,you need the check whether your DVD has a USB input port or else if you laptop or computer has a S-video out put and your TV has S-Video input ;you can play directly from your laptop/computer to the TV using a S-video Cable which is available in any Computer shop.
I hope this helps

S-Video no picture on TV

please right-click on my computer and click on the properties, there click on hardware to see hardware that are not properlly installed or driven. if all hardware are driven than get back for further directives. but it might that the s-video is not driven that is why it is not functioning or responding. good luck

My pc-av18 will start up and go to the main sharp screen but will not load windows. When i push F2 for the setup menu, it asks me for a password. I don't know the password and am in need of removing if...

I am assuming F2 takes you into the bios, sometimes the password can be dissabled in the notebook system settings menu, but try 'oooo' or 'ooooo'.
