Is it connected with a firewire cable? Have you been able to import the video before to your Mac?
If it it says it is in USB Mode - then change the camera menu setting to DV.

Power off the camera, shut down iMovie - power on the camera then launch iMovie check again. (Assuming your using iMovie).

if you can get to the menu on the camera see if there is an operations menu that says to disconnect the usb or to close the usb. It might just be on and not closed.

How do I get Windows 98 to recognize the driver? When I install it, it says it installs all right (but doesn't say where). Then, Windows 98 says it can't find the driver.

"Windows 98 2nd edition" has full USB support, whether "Windows 98" has limited USB support. Is your version 2nd version?
If you have 2nd edition, try another USB port. Also check that the camera USB mode is in DSC mode.
This is done in the Setup menu.

Sony camcorder - USB mode

the usb mode is usually reserved for removing pictures from memory card through camcorder to computer-using camcorder as web cam-new models can stream lower quality video from camcorder to computer-for a dvd cam use a converter box ie pinnacle movie box to convert analog A/V connections to usb and that will stream the correct way-

I wish to transfer my DCR-TRV480 NTSC video to my PC. I have set my camera to Play/Edit mode. However, when I insert my USB cable into my video camera, the message "Disconnect the USB cable before changing the setting" appears, preventing me from playing/transfering my video. What can I do?

DSC-T7 Locked up "USB Mode Normal"

I am a user with the exact same problem as you desribed for my DSC-T7. My problem started when I splashed two drops of water need the battery door and then the camera would not power up. I removed battery and card for a day and camera worked fine for another day. The following day, I left my camera in my sun visor of my car for the day (>90 deg F outside) which I forgot that I put it there. The next day my camera did power up in the locked mode exactly as yours. I do not know if it was the water drops or the heat but it is doing exactly as you desribe. However, here is something that I have discovered while trying to get the camera to work: 1. I plugged the adapter into the side of the camera since I am concerned that the USB port is the issue. 2. I plugged the USB cable into my portable printer and powerer the printer up and then turned on the camera in all three modes to see if anything changed and it did not. 3. I have found if you turn off the printer with the USB cable still in the printer and the adapter, the camera then enters a mode that shows thw word "ACCESS" and then the camera works perfectly. All modes of the camera work fine. But as soon as you power up the printer or remove any of the cables or remove the adapter the camera reenters the locked mode. This is not a solution but an indicator that the USB port is possibly causing the problem but not sure why the printer being off causes the camera to work fine. In addition, have all of the cables hooked up and to the printer does not allow the camera to be used with any mobility but wanted to let you know what I have discovered and hopefully maybe this may lead to a potential solution. Steve
