Question about Coby DVD-958 Theater System

1 Answer

Dvd problem How do you hook up the dvd to the tv with the av cable you provided (3 one end & 3 other. Your small enclosed Coby quick start guide shows only one YELLOW av cable. Is that all you need, one....? We get the dvd small sign on the tv , but when we insert a dvd, we get scrolling and distorted picture. Our old dvd player up and died, so I know, while using the tv remote, how to get to dvd mode but like I said scrolling. Please help.

This cable is called a composite cable. You will use the yellow for video and the red and white for audio. your best bet would be to us an S video cable if your tv is set up for that. If so then you would use the S video and only the red and white for the audio because S video does not carry audio it only carries a video signal

  • The connection you choose depends on the kind of connections available on your TV and on your DVD player. Some manufacturers provide only one kind of connection, others two kinds, and still others all three.
  • Regular AV connections provide good video quality.
  • S-Video provides better video quality.
  • Component Video provides the best quality video next to HDMI.
  • HDMI connections are the highest quality connections If need be adapters are available, to switch from S video cable to what you want. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck.

You're Going to have continuous problems like that with your current configuration. You should plug your video and audio cables directly to a separate input into the back of you set. That's provided of course that you have another input on the set. If your set and dvd player are HDMI cable capable then you also would have typically another hdmi input. In that cast you don't need separate audio cables. The audio is carried as a digital signal in the HDMI cable.

You first should hook the device up with AV cables, after you uses AV cables , you will get a picture, once you get a picture, you need to go into the setup menu and turn on HDMI, once you do this, then you can switch to the HDMI cable.

you have to change the input on the tv to AV. there should be an input button on the remote, but if your remote doesnt work you might not be able to change the input. you can try to use the channel up and down on the tv and once you get to the end of the numbers, some tvs will change inputs before restarting the number list. make sure you hook the yellow cable to the yellow plugs on the dvd and the tv and either of the red or white ones to the white one on the tv. red and white are left and right audio and the yellow one is the video

I do not get a piture or sound

Check to make sure that your TV is tuned to proper channel (I.E., Aux 1, S-video, component 1, so on.) best to try with dvd in the player and just select the source input on your tv one at a time until you get the right one. If you are connected with HDMI cable, it should be one of those, if it is the standard yellow, white, red cable then it would probably be one of the "component" selections on tv input section....you may have to refer to your TV model and user guide to see which one is the correct one in correspondance to what you have hooked up....good luck.

You can check your dvd player for a coaxial or an optical sound output, then you can plug it directly to your receiver. Those two are the best options after HDMI. Another option is A/V RCA type cable, you´ll need 3 stereo A/V wires, in order to connect the 6 channels. Remember to uncheck the HDMI sound output option on the DVD menu.

try using the red White cables from back of tv to back of dvd player/receiver. Do the same with DTV/dvr or cable box. not sure if cable box has red and white cable outlets, however the DTV-DVR does, The quick patch is from TV to back of dvd (input audio)side,....that should work

Can't get surround sound for tv shows

The coby dvd 988 has 2 rca audio input jacks, you need to have these connected to your TV AUDIO OUT jacks, these are usually colored red and white like right and left stereo jacks, be sure to set up the TV for AUDIO output through these connections, some tv`s require that the internal built in speakers are cancelled and the audio output jacks are enabled. Set the coby input signal to receive the port you pluged the tv signal into.
