Question about Sony CRX830E CD-RW/DVD-ROM (Combo) Burner

Open Question

Drive ejects disc without attempting to read them

Sony Drive in Dell inspiron 700m. Drive ejects disc without attempting to read them. It makes a short noise, which I believe is the release mechanism on the drive door. It does not attempt to spin up the drive as far as I can tell. Thus I doubt the laser is the problem, since it does not appear to try to use it. If I hold the door closed so that it cannot eject, it eventually stops trying. It will eject via a right-click in "My Computer" I have tried updating the firmware without any luck. This actually happened about a year ago, and I stopped using the drive because I can't afford to buy a replacement. I noticed that it started working again about 2 months ago. Then it suddenly went back to ejecting without reading. Is it possible that there is some dirt on a sensor or in some way the drive is tricked into thinking that it is open or closed -- i.e. is there anything mechanical that I might be able to fix? Thanks, -Pete

SOURCE: My new DVD-burner keeps ejecting

Try to solve the problem by looking into your PC. What all softwares have you installed? Are you having the problem when you are using some CD/Audio Players ( Does that program crash/hang usually ) ? Only install softwares that you think are useful. It can also be some maicious software. Always update you anti-virus AND anti-spyware. Uninstall all the unwanted softwares. If these dont help solve the problem,... I may help you if you could do the following steps. * When the problem occurs, open Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl, Shift, Esc together. * Under processes, note down the names of all the processes along with username and maybe memory usage. * Give all the particlars about your PC and post it to me ( Try "everest" from to prepare a report ). I shall look into the problem and try to help you.

My 1977098v-d6 will not eject

Possiblky the disc has moved even though on a spindle. When you say it will not eject is this using the software asking it to eject if so it will send the instruction to eject but when it finds a problem with the disc the tray will not open. So, get a pin or needle, in the front ogfthe drive will be a tiny hole behind which is the manual release. Stick the needle in the hole and push the manual release the tray should then unclick and you should be able to remove the disc.

Dell inspiron 1525 blank dvd r not regognized

You will need to use a different brand of blank DVD-R disc, some DVD-R disc will not work with some optical drives. Try using a Sony or Phillips DVD-R discs, these two brands work best.

Ejects cd from my dell inspiron 6400 and will not play or read

remove the CDROM (turn notebook around, remove the drive and reinsert after 1 minute.. perhaps it requires reseating.

if this fails, then accoding to Dell support Discs burned with this drive may not be compatible with some existing drives and players ; using DVD+R media provides maximum compatibility , if you have the 8x DVD/CD Burner (DVD+/-RW)

At boot up , my vostro sends and error message "System in the modular bay not recognized" , and the Dvd/cd doesnt seem to work. It doesnt appear at MyPc and neither does it read any disc.

It may be due to the loose contact of the cables connected to the drive, if the tray ejects that means it receives power, tightining the cables should resolve the issue

Reads and writes cds, reads dvds but does not burn dvds,

This drive is normally supplied with a couple of Dells.
(because of compatibility) Inspiron 700m,710m

If you have another machine for testing?
check the disk for contents to see if the data burn happened,
this will explain a few things in your processes.

Uninstall/Reinstall the drive and reboot then try again.

Have you tried a full system reinstall yet?
Did it fix your problem? Please let me know thanks
