Reboot your system and hit F2 as soon as you see the Dell startup screen (the options are F2 for setup, F12 for boot sequence).

In the System Setup screen, do these steps.

Select Drives:
Make sure your Diskette Drive (3.5 floppy) is set properly (Usually set to Internal)
Make sure that "Drive 0: SATA-0" drive is set to "ON"

Go to "SATA Operation":

Your system proabaly came set to "RAID Autodetect / AHCI" - THIS SETTING CAUSES YOUR SYSTEM TO GO INTO AN IDE LOOP AND DOESN'T ALLOW IT TO FIND YOUR FACTORY INSTALLED SATA DRIVE.

CHANGE THE SATA OPERATION SETTING TO "COMBINATION"

Reboot - make sure that the boot sequence is set to CD rom before HD and make sure that the reinstall CD is in the drive. Setup will load, hit enter to reinstall XP. Your HD should now be detected and you should see the licensing agreement.

If you have your files backed up I reccommend deleting the partition and reformatting prior to installing XP, it will give you that option after the license agreement.

Once you have successfully reinstalled the OS, Dell reccommends that you change the SATA Operation setting back to RAID AUTODETECT / AHCI (or back to whatever your factory setting was) to avoid any problems with other IDE devices installed on your system.

I am trying to re-install windows xp on a DELL dimension 8300 but it does'nt boot it can go to the BIOS and everything but it say Boot.mgr is missing

You should use the bootable Windows XP CD to start the installation.
To do that, you must first enter the BIOS in the Boot Options select the DVD drive as first (so that it will boot from CD/DVD first, instead of the hard disk). Save and Exit, insert the bootable Windows XP CD in the drive and when prompted to do so, "press any key to boot from CD-Rom".
Hope the above helps.

Hi my computer dell gx280 didn't work. It keep show "no boot device available". i try to replace with new hard drive but it still show same thing. Can you help me figure out what is problem with it please?

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing F1 button.. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system.
Try the above solution and let me know how you get on?

Restore will not work comp goes thru the motions and comes back with unable to restore, it doesn't matter how far back you go

Hi, I believe you need to reinstall your operating system, follow these instruction:
Hope this helps

My pc only goes to reboot screen i have tried all the different reboots bot it takes me back to the compag screen at the bottom is said esc- re-boot f1 setup f10 boot menu have tried all no avail want can...

It appears you may sadly need to reinstall your operating system. I can only go from experience here as you do not give much information. I must ask you to get the operating system you have on the pc now or an upgrade and install or reinstall an operating system. This would best be xp pro or best of all windows7.

please keep me posted as you progress.

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media

its basically telling you that your master hard drive with O/S installation cannot be found in the booting system...Check if your master HD is not corrupted and see if your O/S still exist or maybe wiped out..

Selected boot device is not available

I had the same issue with my dell dimension 2400. The issue I was having resulted in the connection to the drive was loose. Try taking off the side of the case, find the drives in question and reseating the plugins. My pc was quite a bit older though and i don't know if this will be your solution, but its worth a shot. You can even try installing a different cable and swapping to another power supply plug.

Ok, well i wiped the hard drive and i need to reinstall **** windows... but i went into the boot sequence to select the cd rom to read the windows disk but it says that no boot device available what to do?...

Try restarting the computer, then tap F2 to go into the setup. In the boot menu, see if cdrom is the first boot device listed. If it's not, use the arrow keys to move it to the first boot device. Save that setting and exit, then try to boot from disk.

HP PAVILION a305w

try getting into the bios and setting it to boot normally, turn off fast booting if its an option thats on, also, set your CD drive as the first boot devioce, then hard drive. Save and reboot, have CD in drive and just start hitting the F10 key as soon as it starts up, usually you hear a Beep when it detects that you are hitting the key for the boot options. HP pavilions where made to start and skip through the Post Process quickly to limit waitnig time, of course this sux when you want to boot from a cd.

You could try remove ing the BIOS Battery off the board and unplugging the system, wait a minute for it to discharge and put it back in, power it up and see if it lets you boot from CD.

Your bassically resetting the BIOS to factory defaults.

Also, i dont recomend buying HP Pavilions. i wokred on three seperate ones that a customer thought was a New machine ( this was back in 2001 ) but all the parts where 1995 parts, which means wghen they tried to upgrade to windows XP, XP doesnt have any generic drivers for hardware that old so nothing worked and yuo cant find any driver online that are that old.

Good luck anyway.
