-   If your computer does not recognize the printer device using the parallel to usb cable, try plugging the cable to mini usb hub then to the computer - it seem to work for me and VISTA immediately recognized the cable and printer.-   Guest

there's another easy way to use your printer even if you dont have a parallel port on your pc. try to look for a print server device named 'SEH' we use this device in our old kodak large format printers like kodak2060, NJ4, 700, 750, 850 etc. this device comes with driver you just have to install it so you can set the desired IP address you want then presto, you can now use your kodak printer as a network printer. note: you will also set the printers SEH IP address in your pc as you install the new printer driver, and same with whatever rip software you are using.

What you can use is a parallel card - this is a card that you can put into the computer just like a sound or video card, and it provides a parallel port. I've seen ones that work in ISA or PCI slots, and they should be available at most computer hardware stores, but probably not at consumer electronics stores.
The card should come with a CD with drivers for your operating system. (Drivers tell your computer how to use the new card.) If you're using Windows, once you install the card and start Windows, you should be prompted for the driver, so just insert the CD then, and Windows should be able to find the appropriate driver.

You can also get a Parallel-to-USB adapter cable. This let's you use a parallel printer over a USB port. They're available in most computer stores and I've seen them at Staples or Office Depot too. It'll come with a driver disc that you have to install before the computer will see the printer over the USB connection.

Ok all that is good, I have a USB to parallel converter and the printer is connected to my PC (Vista), the problem is when adding the printer, I don't know what port to choose, I've chosen a USB port and it printed a test page and all good, but afterwards any printing order is NOT being executed, not even that test page, what now?

If you going to buy new equipment anyway, get a small print server or a jet-direct box. Why support LPT printing which is legacy and only supports a single station, when you can get something that will allow multiple machines to use the printer and uses a port type that all new computers support.

- Parallel Card $52.99, Mini-Print Server $69.99

I still think that this is the better way to go, even if you just run a crossover cable between the computer NIC and the printer ethernet port and set the IP manually.

4650 "N" indicates that it has a Network connector. (like a big telephone jack) Does your PC too? Much faster than parallel. Find hookup instructions on the internet.

Best solution is to buy a used Jet Direct 300x external kit from a source like eBay - around $20. Connect your printer then via network through jet direct. 100% fix every time.
I repair HP2000C professionally and offer refurbished 2000C available with trade in allowance for your old one. www.glassmoyer.net/HP2000C.

HP makes a "print server" that plugs into the parallel port and adapts it into a network cable port. It weighs less then a mouse! Downfall is, it's powered so you need another outlet.

You are in the CS-2050 section. Is that what you have? The CS-2050 has a network card and a USB port? Use one of those.
If you are listed in the wrong section.
There is a USB to parallel cable you can buy at your friendly computer store.

You can purshase at radioshack a USB-to+parallel cable for about $20. It works great and even lets the computer auto detect the printer. I highly recommend it and have used it several times for customers

An easier way is to simply buy a parallel to usb cable. They are availiable at most consumer electronics stores and probably cheaper too.
I found this one for USD $8.99 :

Esaier solution is to get a USB to parallel adaptor. About $25. It simply plugs into your USB port and plug it into your parallel port in your printer. Follow the instructions from adaptor manufacture for the exact steps to load the driver and to recognise the printer.

Perhaps you could use a USB cable and a USB-to-parallel port printer adapter, provided your computer has USB port available. This solution may not work with all printers, but it works with some. Sometimes even faster than using a parallel cable, as USB is faster transmitting and receiving data. Good Luck!
