Re: have a working ariel but it still says no signal
What type of model is this? if it's a older portable pretty much everything has been transferred to digital. You might have a analog portable tv that only picks up analog.

The TV you are trying to connect to may be an older type and not a DIGITAL receiver. The old ANALOG type no longer work with the Digital applications unless to have a CONVERTER BOX.
access the signal strength in the menus and see how it looks. Too strong a signal can also produce the same problems as a weak signal. If it shows full strength but poor quality then it may be too strong a signal.
The best type of aerial for digital reception is to use a wideband aerial this will give you a better spectrum to receive the signal. To locate the aerial position, if you know in which direction your local transmitter is situated, then point the aerial in that direction. The best way to find out which way to point is to simply look around at any of your neighbours aerials & then aligned yours in the same direction. If you are using a spectrum analyser as your sattelitte finder then you can use this to find other frequencies in the signal range.
hi there alot of the updates for the system should automaticly download via ariel to the tv to keep you up to date some times if the strenght of the signal isnt srong enough then you might not get the update they send out , one thing i have found is that if you use an ariel booster then this makes the signal stronger this helps particularly if you have more than one tv set up with the same ariel, you could try unpluging all ariels to other tvs making sure the ariel lead you are using has no conections in it as this also gives you loss of signal if there are multiple conections in the lead runing from the ariel to your tv set hope this helps some
this is because most new lcd tv's have a poor tuner built in and require a stronger ariel, to pull in the analogue or digital signal.
Check that your ariel is freeview capable whether using freview or not, as these ariels are better at pulling in the signal, or do what i have had to do and buy a mains plug in signal booster from Asda for about £6.00, this did the trick, especially if you don't want to replace an ariel costing about £30.00
