It still doesn't take the display off the video on the tape, when transfering the footage to my computer the text still overlays the video.

  • shnals Dec 20, 2008

It takes off the date, but my metering mode, audio bars, minutes left on tape etc all that **** is still there.

  • shnals Dec 20, 2008

I've tried all of that, I hope its not impossible. All the camera settings i had displaying on screen while shooting the video is captured to the tape, but it does seem as if that info is on a different layer or something, i just can't seem to transfer it without the display showing, Thanks for your efforts

Ok i found my problem, page 89 #20 must have been accidentally set to on, that means the characters are superimposed, can anything be done to change that?

  • shnals Dec 22, 2008

I understand sir that I can shut the displays off, please read page 89 #20, I had that turned to on, and i shot a few tapes with that setting turned on, so it seems as if the display is part of the video now, regardless if i turn all those settings off, the tape shot with the setting on, still carries the offensive display characters, so my question is can that display be removed from the previously shot footage? like i've said before fasforwarding the video in my cam removes the cam display which gives me hope it can be removed somehow. Thanks for your effort, but it seems to be deeper than a camera setting.

It is just setting of display in camera Menu and you can check it by hooking camera with TV

In Display Set Menu, you need to turn OFF all that stuff to get picture without any display.
You can access all above said stuff through camera menu and set them ON or OFF as per requirement.

yes, you can set OFF all indicating characters if you go to display setting in this camera. Its beautiful camera with a lot of controls that can be set ON or OFF.

I think superimposed characters can be removed by camera's supporting software in PC because movie file is in digital format.

Please check with installed software to import video files in PC. This might have some control over those characters.

Why won't my Canon XH A1 power up

The most likely cause is a component failure in the power circuit. This can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be looked at by a qualified technician. Here is a link to a repair shop that should be able to help you.

I just removed a tape from my XH-A1 after a shoot last night, I left it on but the tape still ejected but now will not close even when I use my good batteries. It will not power up as well. ?????

MacBook Pro/FCE does not capture video from XH A1 any more. Message: Cannot initialize HDV deck-please connect camera.

Play the tape on the camera before connecting it to the mac and loading up the software. You could always see if iMovie is giving the same error message too... This usually fixes the problem for me and usually arises when switching between SD and HD on the camera.

XH-A1 Non Recogition

I occassionally have this issue, what you need to do is set the camera playing BEFORE you connect and load up the software. This should then show an image in the import settings in iMovie or whatever you are using. If you are using iMovie, do a manual import and rewind the tape on the camera manually with the import just running. When I do this it usually solves the problem for a while but every now and then it'll arise again, usually when switching between using HD MiniDV tapes and the standard ones and hence switching between SD and HD recording on the camera, seems to confuse it somewhat...

Please help me...When I connect my canon xh a1 to FCP 6.0 it says Unable to Initialize Capture Device Device is not connected or the capture preset is not setup correctly. You may still log offline...

Try playing the tape before connecting up to the mac with the firewire and before loading FCP up. Usually fixes it for me when using either iMovie to import or FCP

the tape most likely has the lock switched on, it's secured so no one can even view it, why it happend, beats me, look at the bottom of the tape, if it has the lock switch, and is pushed up to "lock" push it back down, if  that doesn't work than I'm not sure, sorry.
