The power button will not respond and the light next to the power button stay blue until I unplug the unit. The first time it happened I was able to unplug the unit, wait 10 second, then the TV worked normally. The following day the light next to the power button went orange when the unit is plugged in, when I push the power button the light turns blue then blinks then stays blue. The screen is black, no sound, and the power button and remote have no effect. Which computer board needs to be replaced?

Either you can either fix this in a quite simple way, or you need send this to a repair facility (more likely).

The led coming from orange to blue, with tv not responding means that tv is on Protection. This is a special diagnostic mode that is started automatically whenever an internal fault is detected.

That means that the power surge caused a fault.

If you had been lucky enough the problem may be due to electrostatic cahrge accumulating on power board capacitors.

In this case you fix the problem leaving the TV unplugged (cord not connected, turning off is not enough) from power for one hour or so. That should be more than enough to find out, since this TV does not have high voltage circuits apart the inverter board.

If it does not restart, that means that there is an internal fault, and for real. This can be a commonly blown capacitor, another component had blown, that happen commonly after a power surge.

Regarding the main board, that is called controller board (Visco LCD Controller 05A20-1B for model VSC-37V1 ), this is only rarely damaged by a power surge. More exposed to this kind of damaga are the power adapter/power board, and the inverter board (Visco Back Light Inverter VIT71010.52 for model VSC-37V1 ).

Also Signal board resistor and capaitors on input/output boards can blow during a power surge.

Leave tyhe TV power cable unplugged for a while, if this does not fix it, call for service.

The way to test the TV is by taking it apart , checking for bulged capacitors, or component the have blown by sight.
Then you grab the service manual and try to understand the possible fault, following diagrams, and testing components with a multimeter, then you find the defective part and replace it.

If this happened after a power surge, leave the TV unplugged for a while. If that does not work, better calling a technician.

I own several Vizios and it might possibly be that you have the wrong input selected. Try to use the remote to put it onto a different input or on the side there should be an input button, put a dvd into the DVD player that you know works and put it into the normal analog rca cables. Then, push the inputbutton until you hear sound or video. If this doesn't work than there is a possible power supply problem with the T.V. or the main board has gone out.

Please email me back if none of the above suggestions helped.

You mention a surge protector... is it also a power back up in case the power goes out... make sure if you are doing a reset to the tv by unplugging it.... that you unplug it from the surge protector.

Hello letorpey

The main board is the most likely problem when this happens. 9 times out of 10. Order a new one from Vizio. They have great customer service. Good luck on the repair and if you have further questions, please let me know

Vizio vw37l hdtv20a standby light on but wont turn on

you either have a faulty power supply or faulty main board. Vizio power supplies on the older sets are pretty decent. It's usually the main boards that go. These older main boards tend to be pricey so it may be better to buy a new set.

Solutions (2) Best Solution That little fella is only turned off by unplugging it. If all those little lights in America could be turned off we could do with one less nuclear power plant. If unplugging it is not an option, my wife's solution is to cover it with a piece of black tape.

remove all screws on the back of the tv, carefully pull off back cover. you will see two circuit boards one on the left (Power) and one on the right (Video) on the Video board there is a small plug on the right side with a yellow, white and red wire going into a small white connector. the red wire is what controls the orange light on the front. now that the plug is pulled turn it over and you should see a small white plastic piece that holds each metal connector on the end of the wires in. pry this piece of plastic up for the red wire and pull at the same time, the wire will come out of the connector. now tape the metal connector with electrical tape and tuck it behind something or tape it to the chassis. plug your connector back in. put the rear cover back on. now your tv will only show the vizio logo in white when you have the power on. If you wish to disable the logo for both orange and white just disconnect the white plug completely.

Vizio screen went off but power light is still on

may be a mainboard problem. If you can see the orange light it usualy means that there is power running through the TV... usually inverter boards are a problem when you do not see any backlight at all.
