I cannot get the ptrinter to connect wirelessly. The instructions are very confusing. Can you help?
Look at the top of the printout on the first line. Does it end in (Active)? It should otherwise you have to reset the printer. Instructions are in the manual. Power off, hold down the GO button as you turn the printer on and wait til all 3 leds light up, release GO button, then press it 7 times. (I'm not kidding thats the reset procedure to factory defaults. Now do the install with the network cable method, then install BRAlight from the disk (PW=access). Now Click Start,Settings, PRinters and Faxes, now DELETE the printer you just installed, then do a manual install per http://www.brother-usa.com/ModelDocuments/Consumer/Network%20Users%20Manual/NUM_HL_2170W_EN_1292.PDF
For Windows® XP and Windows Server® 2003:
Click the Start button and select Printers and Faxes.
For Windows® 2000:
Click the Start button and select Settings and then Printers.
b Right click on the printer driver you wish to configure, and then select Properties.
c Click the Ports tab and click Add Port.
d Select the port that you wish to use. Typically this would be Standard TCP/IP Port. Then click the
New Port... button.
e The Standard TCP/IP Port Wizard will start.
f Enter the IP address of your network printer. Click Next.
g Click Finish.
h Close Printer Ports and Properties dialog box.

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

i can print from my laptop while i am using a usb cable, but not when it is unplugged. i have set up my wireless for it, but it still doesn't work. the instructions seem to be for routers that support specific programs. I have a netgear wireless router do I have to have different software to make the connection?
I followed instructions explicitly, using the ethernet cable temporarily to install the printer on my home network (through a linksys router), but when it gets to the end of the process, the screen prompt says the process is finished, a test page will print, and to disconnect the temp ethernet cable. The printer prints out a full sheet of info, however, it shows an IP address of "0.0.0.0", and says on line near the end that the "wireless association failed". And it will not find the printer on the network not print to it. I have installed the printer driver on the desktop system, run the Windows troubleshooter, and stil have no success. I have done the re-install 3 times with the same result. Appreciate any help. BTW, my wireless network is working ok -- the Dell laptop connects to/through it fine wirelessly to access internet and another wired printer.
Appreciate any help
I recently received this printer and tried the wireless printing. The farthest I got was a test page. No other document would print. Followed direction on the setup. I am using a Macbook pro running 10.5.6 Any help would be great.
