It all depends where this strip is and exactly how wide it is, it could be a panel problem or one of the pcb's that control that part of the screen, if you can post a photo of it, I can tell you what is wrong with it.

Bottom half of screen is black

The display strip is not properly seated in the connector base. That is a hardware problem so dont think of a software error.

When the TV is turned on there is a @1.5 inch black strip along the top. I was told the TV has a way to adjust the screen. Is this true and is it something I can do by myself?

I'm sorry that the TV is displaying 1.5" black strip on the top of the screen. Please let me know the model # of the TV so that I can give the specific instructions to resolve the issue.

Thanks for understanding.

Indicating a carrage problem, carrage going to fast and slaming into one on start up

The encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.
The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.
The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and try printing the self test. If it slams to the left again, the strip is not yet set correctly.
If you cannot repair the strip, please let us know so that we can assist you further.
Please Note: Fixing the encoder strip is a delicate procedure. During the troubleshooting, if the strip breaks, you will not be able to use the printer.

try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:
1. Please press the "Options" button 10 times. "Cartridges" should now appear in the display screen.
2. Press the "Left Arrow" button once, which then brings you to the "Self-Test" option.
3. Press the "Select" button once. You will hear a series of clicks.
4. It should print out a sheet of paper with horizontal color and black lines and smaller vertical lines.
You should see text followed by a thick 1-inch black bar. Under this bar, should be a process gray bar about ½-inch thick. Below this line should be a set of railroad like bars of cyan, magenta, and yellow.
Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, please let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.
If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.

Kodak camera shows me a blank/black screen

You have a bad CCD imager. Find a repair shop that can strip a CCD from a camera with a bad lens. This is the least costly repair.

Display has 2 inch black stripe running vertically down screen

I have an IBM think pad that developed a 2 inch black strip on the left side of my dispaly. I tried restoring to a previous setting, I updated video drivers, I reset display properties. None of the above worked and am now thinking of formatting and reinstalling windows as a last hope unless someone has any other ideas.

HP Pavilion dv6337us screen problem

Place you cursor on a blank spot on the black area, Hold the left mouse/touchpad button down and drag it back down to the bottom of the screen. That should get you back to where you want things to be.
If that fixes it, please return here to rank this as solved. If it doesn't, let me know and we'll see what else we can come up with. ;o)

Your set has either a bad driver board or more likely a bad plasma panel.
