Question about GE Profile Spectra JBP95 Electric Kitchen Range

GE Electric Spectra Oven botton element will not heat

Hi- I have a GE Spectra oven and the bottom element does not seem to heat.The oven will heat to it's requested degree but will not maintain that tempature for any length of time.

If only one element does not work, then test heating element continuity using a multimeter.
If oven does not bake or broil, then test temp probe.
If there is nothing wrong with elements and temp probe , then test wiring harness to control panel and timer control board.

Should we repair heat element, or buy a new oven?


It sounds like your element is electric. When food drips on that element it can cause a heat spot on the insulation around the electric element and eventually burns through. You can easily replace that element for about $50 - $60. It requires about three hand tools and 15 minutes to remove old one and install a new one. You should be in business for another 14 years if you clean any drippings on the element itself.

It is taking a very long time to preheat the oven. It seems that the top element heats up and then the bottom element heats

Take the 2 screws out of the back wall of the oven (inside) holding the element on. Then pull the element out and it will expose the wires and terminals (2). Unplug the 2 wires and plug them on the new element and mount the element back in the oven and your fixed. (make sure to turn the power off to the oven before you start unpluging wires.

Electric Oven not getting hot enough


there are relays on the oven control that turn the elements on and off, sounds like you need a new control
