Hitachi 35CX45B, circa 1996. Worked well for last 12 yrs. Yesterday, when I pressed the TV's power button, I heard what sounded like the TV's internal electronics coming on, but there's no video (all black) and no sound. Video is black whether cable input is connected or not, or whether I attempt to select alternate video inputs. There's no menu text, no video, no nuthin. There's no sound even if I press/hold the volume increase button to add volume. I've unplugged, waited, & plugged back in with no success. It's powered thru a surge protector. I've tried w/o to protector w/no success.

hold the remote near a radio in mw or sw band &press remote buttons . sound is heard by pressing button ,then remote is ok... the sensor of tv may be problem..........if sound is not heard remote problem..
THE PROBLEM IS YOUR TV MODE HAS BEEN RECONFIGURED TO KE1 MODEL. SO YOU WILL NOT GET THE AUDIO MENU. THE SOLUTION IS, JUST BUY AN ANOTHER REMOTE RC-ZVT03 MODEL AND USE IT AS A TEST JIG REMOTE. OPEN THE COVER, YOU WILL SEE THE CONTROLLER IC BW7461-3T ( 16 PIN). ACTUALLY TO ENTER IN TO THE SERVICE MODE, WE HAVE TO PRESS THE "TEST" KEY. BUT THAT KEY IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE REMOTE. SO SIMULATE THE 'TEST' KEY, JUST SHORT THE PIN NO 4 AND PIN NO 12 THROUGH A WIRE TO ENTER IN TO THE "SERVICE MODE". ONCE YOU PRESSED THE PIN 4&12, THE TV WILL ENTER IN TO THE "AGEING MODE". THEN PRESS "AV MODE" SWITCH IN THE ANOTHER REMOTE ( YOUR CASE ZVT13). A MENU WILL APPEAR TO SELECT THE MODE. PRESS NUMERIC KEY "3" (INDA-1) TO SELECT THE "AIWA TV-A2119KE" MODEL AND AGAIN PRESS "AV MODE" TO EXIT. AGAIN PRESS THE TEST KEY TO EXIT. RESTART YOUR TV. NOW YOUR PROBLEM SOVED. SINCE I ALSO FACED THE SAME PROBLEM, I GOT THIS SOLUTION (jp_ati).
Basically it sounds like you have no power otherwise because I am assuming you have also tried the power button on the TV itself. Does the light on the TV do anything at all when the power button is pressed?
