I get the same error. Also if I put the hard drive from the HP > Pavilion XP788 PC Desktop into any computer, no matter what I do, I cannot boot from that systems cd to run recovery programs. I will try floppy versions, though.

your windows cd is damaged, or your ram controller is faulty. gtet a new windows xp disk, or examine it for scratches, and if you feel froggy, attempt to use some sort of cd cleaner or even wax to buff out the scratches.

Hello, While trying to boot up, I received the message, "disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del". The same message appears after I press ctrl+alt+del. What can I do to resolve the issue? Thank...

This is called a disk error which generally means your disk has failed. You need to get your data off it if it is not backed up. You will have to replace the disk.
A local computer shop might, just might, be able to install it into a second computer and read the data. The more you fuss with it the lower your chances of getting any data off it.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs. I do this for fun and do not get paid.

I have a optilex 170l dell computer i replaced the hard disk and now i gives me a disk read error occured press ctrl+alt+del to restart

Press ctrl+alt+del to restart is just an instruction. Did you do it?
What happened? Was it read? Tell us more. Send your e-mail for
us to give you our feedback.
By the way, assuming that it did not work, Your hard disk must be
configured to your PC, by running a software driver for your new hard
disk. You can download it from the internet by running search " hard
disk driver". Just specify the brand.

A disk read error occurred press ctl-alt-del to restart goes back 2 same scrn

Sounds like the hard drive has errors.
Boot to a windows XP cd.
Repair using the windows console.
at the repair console type:

chkdsk /R (hit enter)

Let that run, it takes a long time.
If it's able to repair the drive enough for operation it will.

If it cannot you will be forced to replace the hard drive.

I get a black screen that says a disk read error occured press ctrl alt del to restart

The problems is with your hard driver

First check the hard drive data cable and power cable are plug in well
Is that is ok

So you have to try to reformat the hard drive and reinstall a opertaing system (using a Operating system CD Or Boot able Disk)

IF it is not working you have to replace a new hard disk
