There is insulation between the element and the outer kettle. This insulation can get brittle and crumble with age. I was lookiing for some parts as I have this kettle also and was told the kettle and parts are no longer available. If anyone has access to these parts please email me at garywhively@yahoo.com. Thank you. Gary

Is the serial number J96107 a real serial number? I was told that they only went up to J96096.

As with any hardware, you need to supply a "brand name" or manufacturer and what the "model number" is. Of course, a model number is not a serial number. Even within a brand, each model may have its own set of serial numbers. I suggest you do a google search for "brand serial numbers" replacing the word brand with your specific brand. But here is a short cut that may serve you well:

If you want to try another type of direct google search for your:

If you do not know the brand, then try the type of instrument and serial numbers. That may offer you a list of different instrument brands with links to serial numbers associated with them. Here is a result for a search for clarinet serial numbers.

the age of all water heaters is listed under the serial #, not model #. you will have to call a plumbing supply house that deals in your brand of waterheater, a.o. smith, ruud, bradfordwhite, etc.

NEWCO manufactured 1989 model RC-28F

It sounds like you have a pour over model and the problem is the tank isn't full. Turn the machine off (or unplug it). Put a pot on the warmer like you are going to brew coffee. Pour clean cold water into the top until it starts coming out the sprayhead (above where the coffee grounds go). Now plug it in and turn on. Let it heat up then you can brew.

The way your machine works is that there is always about 2-1/2 pots of water in the tank. The water you pour in to make coffee is actually pushing the hot water in the tank out. So, if you don't fill the tank before using it, you may be hurting the heating element since it isn't totally submerged in water.
