Question about Seagate 500GB Barracuda ES.2 SATA 3Gb/s Internal 500 GB Parallel Hard Drive

1 Answer

My new 500GB SATA II HDD gets heated very quickly and I have my old IDE HDD still working and it doesnt get much heated even if it is on for 12hours continously. Just in a matter of 15 to 20mins the harddisk becomes hot...How to overcome this problem? They have also mentioned that warranty is void if the HDD experiences more than 300G!! HELP!

This is normal. SATA II drives spin much faster and run much hotter then IDE drives. You can attach a hard drive cooler to the hard drive if you wish and if there is enough room in your case.

Try to go into the bios and set the first boot device as your sata hdd. There will be a option in boot section of the cmos setup where the hdd drive order will be mentioned. If PATA is shown first press enter in the option select SATA and press enter save and exit changes things should go on fine.

Also check your pata hdd and cdrom specific jumper setting. For more help post your HDD model and make and cdrom model and the bios type

Switching from 40GB IDE HDD to 500GB SATA HDD. SATA won't boot.

Hi there
No there is no need to change any jumpers on a sata drive, go into the bios settings and tell the bios to boot from the western digital drive only.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!!

I have Intel 845GVSR Motherboard, 2.4GHz Processor, 1GB RAM

Yes it will. Just make sure to buy the proper hdd. If your board has SATA II connections then you would need a SATA II hdd. If it is just SATA then a SATA II drive would not work. Your other option would be an IDE hdd. If your system has a cable that looks like a big ribbon connected to your existing hdd then it's an ide drive. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Can I transfer data from 250GB IDE HDD to a SATA II 500GB HDD

Yes you can. You may have to go in BIOS or and select your SATA as the first drive to boot off of though, else it might try to boot off the old IDE. But once you're in windows, it will appear as another drive in my computer.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

I have A8N-VM Motherboard and 250GB IDE HDD. Can i connect 500GB SATA II HDD and transfer data from my IDE HDD to SATA II HDD

Assuming you have a Asus A8N-VM CSM GeForce 6150 Motherboard then if you have a SATA cable that works for that or an adapter for the SATA II if it wont fit it should be fine and you can have both in at once. So there would be no need to transfer but if you want you could.

If im not getting this please let me know and I will try to help you more.

K8V-MX motherboard+HDD size limit

yes the mother board supports SATA However if you connect large Disks to the SATA connectors they are recognized correctly with full size. So leave your 500g and less HDs on the IDE and the big ones on the SATA. you can check this link for the manual for more information ftp://ftp.chiligreen.com/Desktop/Manuals/manual_a_k8v-mx.pdf hope this helps .thanks and Godbless pls appreciate by rating as fixyaa

I've just bought a 500GB hard drive seagate sata-II , and it doesn't come with the installation cables, or screws or even the intructions of how to install it. So I don't really konw what cables or things...

All you need is a SATA cable. Can be bought anywhere PC parts are sold or on eBay. You can use the screws from your old hard drive. The SATA drive will only work if your motherboard is current. Older M/Bs only accept IDE drives.

No but you need to ensure that the drivers for your SATA controller are installed correctly (as they probably are not installed) http://uk.asus.com/products1.aspx?l1=3
