Using hp scanjet 3970 Just loaded hp scanning software and the large install of the 3970 drivers. When I enter the program the scanner opens and scans te image on the tray. (I am trying to scan a slide) When I select "slides from TMA" I get the error message: "The hp imaging device could not be intialized. An error has occured communicating withthe device" It asks me to make sure everything is plugged in and working. We know that it is because of the initial scan when I open the application.

I have win 7 & it works....I don't use any hp software, just plug it in
& 7 downloaded basic drivers for it-simple scanning only

Decided I would be spending more time and effort than this scanner was worth. I went and purchased an Epsom. My plan is to rid my house of everything HP. They are not the company they were for so many years, must be the cost accountants are running the show.

HP only have a basic vista driver for this scanner which won't give full functionality.

If the reason for trying to use the software is nothing more than to have a photo editor / cropper / etc... buy a different program!

My experience with HP has been great, except for the fact that their software is ridiculously large, and filled with fairly useless add-ons. I have used various imaging software/photo editing software for many years, but rarely ever that of the scanner's manufacturer because of functionality. If you want a decent program, check cnet.com, under downloads... you can find wither freeware or introductory software that rivals most basic manufacturer's products!

According to the manual, you should always scan from the HP scanning software to scan slides using Scanjet transparent material adapter. There is no button that you can set for default slide scanning properties. This is shown on page 8 of the manual for the 3500 series scanners. Since the scanner works with pictures, make sure that the TMA adapter is plugged into the back of the scanner. Next open the software, HP Photo & Imaging Director. In most versions of Windows, press Start and look for the HP programs heading. Expand this to find the executable file. Alternatively, find the icon on the desktop or find the software in the file explorer (Program Files/HP/ on 32-bit versions, Program Files (x86)/HP) and then the appropriate sub-folder. Now try to scan the slides when they are loading in the adapter.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with your OS if you are still having problems. Some newer OS versions may have installed generic drivers for the ScanJet 3570C. The generic driver might not communicate with the TMA properly.)

Sometimes the best thing to do is to start from the beginning. If you find that your OS is not listed, we should look at another avenue to resolve this issue.

Completely un-install your scanner. Then restart your computer. Re-install the software for this scanner. Try the following link to get your specific OS drivers that are needed.

Download the latest drivers, download the patch, install them both, that should fix your problem

you need to download the drivers on another computer and transfer by CD to the cmoputer you are tying to use. It seems that the computer that you are trying to download on is a goverment computer and its policy is not allowing that.
