Question about Sony KP-53S75 53" Rear Projection Television

Strips of color coming up from bottom of tv

When you are standing close to the tv you can see what looks like a red & green rainbow of faint color over the picture going up the center about 9 inches high. when you set back and watch the tv from a normal distance the picture is clear and the color is good and you do not notice these lines. tv seems to play good other than that. i have tried the flash focus for convergence and the crosshairs go back to form the white cross but if you check the next time the set is turned on you will have to flash focus again. the colors ar out of wack again. thank you

Youll need to replace the stk ics inside the tv. they are easilly found by looking for two larg heat sinks. im pretty sure sony runs stk392-510. you will have to look at the ics to verify.

My plasma tv just started having water colors flashing on top and bottom?

what do you mean water colours? do you mean like a faint rainbow type of thing, if so that means a magnet is or has been too close to the screen, and as far as I am aware magnet damage can not be repaired

Faint lines show up when i get dark screens in movies

First check what color of faint lines comes then reduce Screen Volts in TV of that CRT (tube)
Take off lower front cover, speaker grille of TV, there you will see focus control block that has 6 control knobs, upper 3 knobs are focus adjustment of red-green-blue CRTs and lower 3 knobs are screen volt controls for red-green-blue CRTs. Turn screen volt control knob CCW to reduce screen volts of desired CRT.
Put TV on any free AV input so screen will be dark enough to adjust screen volts.
Thanks.

Rainbow of colors on screen

I just had a rainbow of colors on my tv screen...i thought it was a problem with my TV...however the screen went the "sign off" screen (verticle lines-red/blue/green) Then all of a sudden the picture came back and all was back to normal again.

So I say it's nto your TV it is a station problem!

Sometimes I get a rainbow on the bottom of the screen.

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

TV Problem with shutting off by itself

Mine just did the same thing.  Except for it was green instead of blue.  The service manual states 8 flashes from the light stands for an overvoltage.  After reading the manual for a bit I realized the bottom row of 3 adjuster screws from behind the speaker grill adjust the output for the red, green, and blue colors.  BEFORE OPENING ANY TV OR MONITOR PLEASE KNOW THAT THE VOLTAGE INSIDE CAN KILL YOU EVEN IF UN-PLUGGED so please be careful and only adjust what is mentioned here.  I un-plugged the tv, removed the grill and the board covering the internals, and carefully turned the 3 adjustment screws all the way down.  I then waited about 10 minutes (don't know if this made a difference).  I turned on the tv, turned the channel to an auxilary input (for a black screen), and slowly raised each of the 3 bottom screws one by one up clockwise until i could see a faint green, blue, or red line (depending on the screw), and then turned each one back a hair until the screen was black again.  Only adjust one at a time, the order for colors are blue, green, then red from the left.  I hope this fixes your problems.  Be careful when working inside a tv,  I suggest not using a screw driver to adjust the screws due to the possibility of it slipping and someone getting hurt.

Sony 60" HDTV Plasma WEGA....Picture Problem

Sounds like your component cables may have come off its contact point. Check to see if your cables have become loose. Pushing them back in place should take care of that but check at the source output and the TV's input. Red Green Blue, when ever one of these 3 come out of contact the TV will produce a color hue relevant to what color remains in contact, looking faint and discolored. If you do find a loose cable connection, inspect the contact ends and squeeze lightly to restore a snug fit but don't do it to hard or you may damage the prongs.
