I have the same problem, but I can not find the wireless button to activate it.  I see the icon on the front, but there is nothing next to it.  **Suzan**

You have two alternatives - 1 back up your data and do an F11 full system destructive recovery - on completion if your unit doesn't define the wifi card you have a hardware fault - more than likely m/board for the wifi cards are very reliable. 2 - with battery removed - undo the screws holding your wifi card remove it from it's slot ( in the belly ) using an alchol wipe clean the gold contacts on the card refitt the card and reboot your system - let me know how you go.

I have the problem where I can't switch the wireless on, I have a hp pavillion dv7 1002ea. the solution i found was to enter the bios on start up and reset the bios to default. After doing this it worked fine!

Check to make sure your wireless card is enabled in the BIOS. hit f10 or the toggle switch @ startup. go to Devices in the BIOS and check to make sure both options for your wireless card are turned on. I had this issue with the tc1100 with the 2200bg intel wifi card.

Sometimes this problem occures when you install a later model wireless router.
Try installing the latest Wireless card driver on the XP computer and the LAN card drivers on the other computers except the MAC.

I own a HP DV9000 my wireless quit working

Check the Device Manager to see if the Wireless LAN device is working and enabled. If not reinstall the Wireless LAN driver.
If the Wireless LAN is OK and enabled then sometimes when you bootup the Wireless LAN card doesn't get an IP address from the wireless router. This usually has a red X on the wireless connection icon and sometime you get an error message "Limited or no connection".
To get the router to issue the wireless LAN card with a new IP address, righr click on the Wireless icon and click on Repair.
You can also power down the router wait 15secs and power up the router again then reboot the computer.
If it still doesn't work you could have a faulty wireless card, see it your friendly computer shop can test it for you.

Is there a blue light to show that the wireless is active on the laptop? If not, switch the wireless connection on once windows has loaded. It may be that you have a faulty connection between the wireless card and the motherboard. Check out this link:

Wireless not working

First thing to do - check wireless is turned on. It sounds basic, but sometimes the switch can get knocked, meaning that the laptop won't recieve any wireless signal. If this doesn't work, play around with the settings for a while - if you're running Windows you can go to 'network connection' in Control Panel and right-click on your wireless connection; go to 'repair' and the repair wizard will go through it to try and fix it. Make sure both the wireless switch on your laptop is turned on, and that your modem is turned on too.
If this doesn't work, go to your modem's setup page (usually a web page - the address will be in the manual) and choose a different wireless channel - 0, 6 and 11 are the only non-overlapping channels. You may want to adjust your wireless signal power to make sure you have enough signal. You might also want to run a diagnostic on your modem to see if it is running properly. Some modems will display on the setup page which computers are active. See if yours comes up.
If this still doesn't work, you may want to go to an internet cafe or other wireless hotspot to check whether it is your modem which is at fault. If you get a signal and can connect, then it may well be the modem at fault. Check at some other locations just to be sure. If not, it sounds like the wireless card has a problem. If it is an internal wireless card, you might want to take it back to the manufacturer for repair. If it is an external wireless adapter, you may just want to replace the card or adapter to see if this helps.
Hope you work it out, and that you get your wireless connection back soon!

HP Pavilion ZE5185 wireless card not accepted

your laptop has buidin wireless. you don't need a additonal wirelsss card.
that's why the laptop beeps whne you insert the wireless card.
there is a wireless on-off button—located on the right side of the front of the computer—you can connect to a wireless local area network (LAN) and access computers and other resources on the network.

Got a hp laptop with wireless on it the wireless has just stopet working i have to use a usb adapter so that i can go on the internet.can you tell me how to get my wirelss back.thank you.

does the non working wireless card still show up in the device manager?
if so does it show up as installed or with error?

if not is it enabled in the bios?

Also i have seen people accidently turn off the internal wireless card by pressing the little button on the laptop without realizing it or on some laptops the internal card can be turned on and off with function key combination..

On some models when you turn off the internal wireless card with the litttle switch the card will still show up in the device manager as installed and look ok but will not find any networks at all...
and right clicking on the icon and selecting enable radio does nothing untill you phisically turn it on with the little switch

there should be some sort of light or indicator somewhere on the laptop that lights up when the wireless is on..

what model HP laptop do you have?

HP dv1000 laptop and internal wireless modem

Although you have internal wireless, you are capable of attaching an external wireless device. For example, you could attached a D-Link WUA-1340 USB Wireless G adapter (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=477), or, if you have a PCI port, you can use a Linksys WPC300N Wireless-N Notebook adapter (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144763513196&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1319686869B07). Either device with any brand will work just like your internal wireless. In fact, because you chose to use an external device, you may get a better wireless signal. Because internal wireless devices are inside the computer, it is more difficult to received a signal than with an external device.

Turn your Linksys router off and back on again, then try connecting on your iPaq again. If that fails, do a soft reset on your iPaq and try again. If that fails, do a hard reset. Also, do you have any wireless security set up for the router?
