I have a 4 year old 5 ton goodman heat pump.The breaker for the outside unit jumped to the off position. I have no power even the thermostat is off. The repair guy came replaced the Inside fan motor,everything was good for about six hours .Now its off again the exact same problem? Please Help.

Sound like the outside unit is going to ground or the unit is over amping. Take and shut off the power to the unit and check all of the electrical connection for tightness. Don't forget to check the disconnect wires too since you shut it off at the breaker box. If you have a meter check to see if it''s live before you work on it. If it's all tight then call back the person that did the previous repair and tell them that he obviously missed something and the you feel that it should be a warranty call.

Seriously depends on what unit you have. Model # & serial #? You can "jump" R to G at the unit. If its a standard Goodman AHU there may be a terminal block or just some wires that were factory installed outside of the unit. R to G will send 24v to the blower relay, sequencer or board (depending on model) energizing the relay and then returning to common. If you have tried that you should ensure you have proper line voltage 220-240vac. at the service breakers on the AHU.
Im assuming you mean the low voltage fuse? In that case its located on the circuit board inside the electrical panel on the unit. If looking for the high voltage fuse (breaker) you should have a disconnect outside protected by a breaker inside at the electric service panel (breaker box).
You say 2 to 3 years... I'm assuming the unit is older than that. Especially being r22. What about the first 10 years??? Normally you will get 400 to 500 sqft per ton of cooling, but, that depends on heat load calculations. If the unit wasn't big enough you would have had this issue 10 years ago, not when the system kept running low on refrigerant. At first guess I would say a 2 ton unit is not big enough but if it worked fine for 10 years...wuth all that in mind, if it were me, (a seasoned professional) I would spend 1800 to fix my 15 year old r22 unit before I spent $4000 on a new r410a piece of junk. Your going to need to know the age of the unit. If its less than 5 years old, its most likely a 13 SEER. If its anything more than 5 years old, its most likely a 10 SEER. If its anything over 10 years old, its most likely an 8 or 6 SEER.
Remember, that a unit will loose an average of 1-2 SEER for every full year of operation. This is just due to age, wear and tear, and usage.
So, if its a 10 SEER unit that is 7 years old, you could say that it is about as efficient as something in the 4-6 SEER range.
Easy: Turn the "fan" switch to on at the thermostat and see if the blower starts. If no start, check breaker at breaker box. Check service disconnect at or near the air handler. With the breaker and/or service disconnect OFF check the 3 or 5 amp fuse inside the top cover in the air handler. Not so easy: (You must know what you are doing for this part or let an HVAC Tech do it for you) Open thermostat and firmly jump the Y and R terminals to see if you get the compressor to start for no more than 30 seconds. (don't do it more than once.) Jump the G and R terminals to see if you get the blower to start. If so, u have a bad thermostat. If not, check the transformer inside the same cover in air handler for proper voltage. (24V. Make sure you also get 220 on the opposite side of the transformer) If the blower comes on, but the heat pump doesnt start, open the side cover of the heat pump, with the thermostat on cool, and the temp. setting as low as possible for at least 10 minutes see if the contactor is pulled in. If so, check the capacitor and see if it's blown out. Be super careful these systems operate with 220v and the amperes are enough to kill you if you make a simple mistake.
That does not sound normal at all, I have a Goodman Heatpump and the Fan on the Evaporator (outside unit) should run as soon as it starts up! The only delay you should be seeing is when the unit starts, the fan in the AHU starts 5 seconds after and runs for about 1.5 minutes after shutdown.
First of all is this unit a heat pump i'm not up on goodman model #'s if it is a heat pump reversing valves do go not a real common problem 1000.00 is excessive i would be inclined to get a 2nd opinion. plastic over the sand could create a condensation mold problem. Good luck. Tom
this is a 3 ton unit it still has parts warranty on it if you look inside the fan area of out door unit the reversing valve has 3 copper lines on one side and 1 on the other fyi when giving call for cooling out door fan running? if no check for fuses in disconnect at unit or breaker off in panel remove panel where power comes to unit pull disconnect look at capacitor silver thing with wires on top if swollen on top bad hope this helps some
