Question about Nikon Coolpix 8700 Digital Camera
Every time I turn on my Nikon Coolpix 8700, in the control panel automatically appears the +/- (Exposure compensation indicator) and the exposure compensation value 0.0. I can change this value with the command dial, but nothing happens when I press the shutter release button or any other button. This happens in all user settings (auto, scene, custom). The only way to take a picture is to press the lock button (to lock the exposure value) before the shutter release button or to press the shutter release button while in the custom 1 or 2 menu. I tried the reset function from the menu but nothing changed. What caused the problem? Is there any way I can reset my camera to its original status when auto mode used to mean just press the shutter release button?

Same problem that would not allow me to take a picture without pressing
the LOCK button on my Nikon 8700. Here is how I believe I fixed the
Turn the camera ON.
Press MENU button on your camera to bring up the menu.
Scroll down to SET-UP, open the SET-UP menu by scrolling right.
In the SET-UP menu, scroll all the way down to FUNC (Controls) on page 2/3 , open the FUNC (Controls) menu by scrolling right.
You are now presented with 2 options:FUNC and AE-L, AF-L)
Select the FUNC option by right scrolling.
Choose the 2nd option: i.e the mountain, flower and timer icon (distance, macro and self-timer icon) by right scrolling.
Press the MENU button to get out of the menu.
Attempt to take a picture without pressing LOCK.
Should work! Anyways, it worked for me.

auto- adjust your Iso it is too bright or dark for your current setting
c1-(manual) change your f-stop and Iso. set the iso to 200 and move the F-stop to any number and test the speed.
