Question about Toshiba TN61X81 61" Rear Projection Television
Some time ago we suffered a severe power surge at our home. According to a friend whose knowledge-base I trust, this "type" of surge sounded like a current-reversal, which according to him, even my $300 surge surpressor protecting all my electronics, is not designed to trap.
The problem: Even though I lost nearly everything (DVD, VCR, Amps, telephones, etc.) the Toshiba still powers up, has sound, can still change channels, and even still displays the onboard menus (Volume Up/Down bar, channel display, etc.) What's missing is the picture. Have tried all the various input...coax, RGB, S-video on the front. Nothing produces an image.
Would like to know if, based upon this description, does this sound like something I might be able to DIY? We live rurally & getting a repair company out here is going to cost a small fortune.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Sorry, but the short answer to your DIY question is "no". Good luck. . .

SOURCE: no picture no sound
You will need to trouble shoot the various power supplies most likely something minor in either the stand by or start up circuits. I recommend that you get a service manual at the following link as they will email it to you and also help you diagnose it with free tech support. Here is the link.

try not to mix areas in the tv chasing several problems.
if the tv has not white noise the screens are without convergence. you are digging in a set with maybe 5 problems the three you told me plus the other posibilities im gessing and i hope you don't have. So slow down with the repair and try step by step. bye now.
