Question about Polaroid TLA-01511C 15 in. LCD Television

Picture goes out

When I turn my TV on it works great for about 1-2 minutes and then it shuts off and in about 2 seconds only the sound comes back. When I turn the TV off and back on it does exactly the same thing only quicker.

I have the same problem with my TLA-01511c. I've replaced all of the capacitors on the PSU (Except the large black one) and still have the same problem. I read on another post that this model has the inverter built into the PSU. Where should I look next? Thanks, Berryn

We've only had the TV for one year. When you turn it on, it works for less than a minute then the picture disappears but the sound is good.

  • Anonymous Feb 27, 2009

Turn it on and it works for 1-2 min and it goes out like a backlight has turned off. If you look at the screen closely then you can see it

When TV is turned on it works for about 1 minute and then there is a click and the picture goes off but the sound stays on. When the TV is shut off, and turned back on again, it works for about 1 minute and then the same thing happens.

Audio goes quiet, Video goes black, Audio comes back. All happens in just a few minutes of being turned on. Audio has been acting up since the beginning. It (the audio) is the best it has ever been when the screen goes blank.

Chuc - you may need to replace the CapXon 1000 uf 10v capacitors in the unit (If this is what is in the 15" unit) This fix was for the same type of problem on a 37" Polaroid. I found this fix and thought you may find this useful. This is from user Stivo "This has worked for me, I am no technician so I can't say that it will work for you. Click here for information on caps. Or here
If you try this it is at your own risk!
Defective Parts:2 CapXon 1000uf 10v caps.
Replaced Parts:2 Off brand 1000uf 16v caps. (the closest match my local supplier had.)
Once unplugged and flipped over I removed these three screws to access the control box.

Picture goes out - a9d1683.jpg
Carefully pry up and pull back on the vented cover.
With the cover off I removed 3 more screws and again carefully pryed up on the control box cover to expose the inside.
4f3d408.jpg Circled is the location of the bad caps. (This is an after picture. I didn't take any pictures of the caps still on the board.)
Press your index finger over the tops of the 2 caps and feel for a bulge. Good caps should be sunken in. Bad caps ballooned.
b10c4c4.jpg These are mine removed
1822746.jpg In order to de-solder your caps you must unplug all connectors and remove the 4 screws holding down the board. Be very careful!, and only touch the sides of the board. Wear an anti-static band alsPicture goes out - 1b2e11a.jpg />1b2e11a.jpg Once removed pull of the plastic shield underneath the board. Be careful and save it, YOU MUST PUT IT BACK.
Carefully de-solder the old caps. Replace with new caps.
Note the polarity This is very important! On the board look for the + sign. That is your positive. The longer lead should go here. Take your time and verify This step.

(sorry no pics on the cap removal and install I wasn't positive that this would work so I didn't think about taking any.)

Reverse the procedure to put your set back together.
Now plug it up and hope it works for another year!
Curse Polaroid and vow to never buPicture goes out - b87cf86.jpgfrom them again!

On December 24, 2008 I submitted my debit card to request an answer from Polaroid about what to do to fix my TV. To date, February 6, 2009 I have had no response. The amount of $9.99 was withdrawn from my account on December 29. The site said that a response could be expected in about 2 days. I realize that there were holidays then but I would like some sort of response or at least a refund of my money.

I took my set to a local repair shop and was told that it needs a new panel which is not available. I was advised to throw the set out. 6 weeks after my debit card was charged for help from this website I still have not heard from them.

Haven't used our TV in six mos. It turned on OK but five minutes later turned off; but five minutes later turned on again but then turns off five minutes later. What to do? New TV or let it warm up?

Check all the connections of the flat cables inside the TV. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

LED TV, DSE GE6880 TV flashes when power on; no picture, with audio. No backlights, has picture with flashlight test Have tested LEDs - all working Infrequently TV turns on and works no problem!

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

I have a Vizio model E320Vl TV. after working for about two hours it shuts off. You can unplug it and wait about 10 minutes and it turns back on but will shut off again after awhile.

Sounds like The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electro-medical.blogspot.com/
It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

LG LED TV has sound but no picture. Went out all of a sudden. Image shows with flashlight. Flashes for split second on power up and power down.

Your screens back light has most likely failed and or the voltage controller for the back light, both should be replaced.

Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. The site has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. The site has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Set-up code list to many brand remote controls also is given. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily.

I have a rca model led65g55r120q tv flickers and no sound

Check all cables for loose connection, try another input for picture (DVD, BLu-Ray, etc). If none of the other inputs work then it's a panel problem (display) If one or more of the others work then it's a problem with either the tuner or the signal.

I have sound but no picture on my tv

This is a popular question. Most of the time you either need to make sure all connections are not loose or just need to turn off your tv and receiver and unplug. Wait for 1 minute then reboot.
I recommend this short video as it walks you through some diagnostics for other possible problems.

No Video Or Sound - Stand By Light Flashes 5 Times

If the tv was made before December 2008, there is a capacitor settlement from a class action lawsuit by Samsung. Supposedly (at no charge) they will send a repairman to replace the capacitors.
